OK so I played for about 24 hours straight this weekend

I began a new job today...a solid, long-term position--finally.

I needed to get in one last gaming bender while I had the time, but this particular marathon wound up rivaling some of the more extended gaming periods had in my lifetime. Even the brutal sun-risers experienced in the days of Asheron's Call, the MMO that made me forever swear off all MMOs, may not quite touch this past weekend's session. When I think back upon my gaming history, I can only conjure up one instance where I KNOW I'd played longer than a day straight: when I got Super Metroid for the SNES and played it from beginning to end without break.

I digress. I just wanted to thank everyone that reamed me a new one this past weekend on TG. Some of you saw me down the barrel of your rifles Saturday afternoon, some of you flung grenades my way Saturday evening. The conquest server died late Saturday night and some of you drove FAVs over me until the bitter end. More of you chucked rockets at me Sunday morning, while the rest of you stepped on me with giant walker feet Sunday afternoon. While the server was idle in the wee hours of the morning? I ran off to a pub, miraculously scrapped up a decent squad and raised a bunch of hell. Good thing no TGers were on there, as I got was able to restore my confidence from the ashes of my soul burned from me on the TG battlefields.

The action on both servers was intense as always, and I had TONS of great squadmates. There are too many of you to thank personally, so just consider yourself thanked personally. You all kept me clicking "join game" over and over and over.

Also, I wanted to apologize to squadmates for any pointless, dazed and confused voice-over from my end. The lack of sleep may have had something to do with it...or perhaps it didn't, who knows. I'm a pretty dazed and confused dude.

My first all-nighter was FF3. Then EQ has takin that award for 12 all nighters. Half-life also got 2 out of me and FF7 got 3.

I can't do that anymore with a full time job, It's fun stuff though.

Re: OK so I played for about 24 hours straight this weekend

the game that probably had me staying up latest for longest was an old text-based RPG called Gemstone III. I played some pretty long hours on counterstrike back in the day when i finally found a community i gelled with. But I guess in my "old age" I can't really make it past 2 or 3 at the very latest anymore.

Plus, if I play for more than maybe two hours at a time I get really cranky (the people who played with me today [ultrablue primarily] can perhaps attest to this). My performance also goes down after about two hours of playing without some rest.

I remember the summer that just passed I was able to finally purchase BF2, 52HRs 16MINs and god knows how many seconds. The only way i was able to pull this off was because there was a Roger Waters concert that my entire household went except for me.

Starcraft. Back in college my friend and I would do overnighters with that. Funny thing was I never did an overnighter for a final or a paper in college. But I did for Starcraft

Heh, good times vitamin. I kept calling you victim because thats what I thought your name was. Great times in the squad and then I think I killed you a lot later on the other team.

Lol...

Seriously though, it was defintely great playing with ya... If I recall correctly, you did a mighty fair job of doing some serious stomping yourself--all in keeping w/ the TG way.

Looking forward to seein ya around, and good luck w/ the new job. Hopefully all that play won't wiggle its way into your workday. $BF2142_AT_WORK_JOKES

Half Life and Half Life 2 kept me up a couple of nights for sure. I'm a sucker for story line games.

The one that had me up for days was Homeworld. First RTS I ever played(and one of the last). Self employment rules.

What a shame man. Nothing beats pumping out a 20 page research paper in 12 hours while loaded on caffeine. SC seems to be that way for a lot of people. Because VOIP wasn't really around back when it was released, I used to wedge a phone on my shoulder and conduct 3-way-call voice chat via telephone for hours. Thankfully they were not long distance partners!

Vitamin, we're all curious:
Which vitamin are you?

You know, it's really funny you said that.

Waaaaay back--shortly after 2142 was released, at a time when MenacingVitamin was a lowly corporal or something, there was a dude on a random PUB's enemy team named Vitamin_Death. Three things about that particular round stick in my memory to this day: my amusement at playing against another Vitamin, that the map was Taiba conquest and that I knifed him in the face. I should go look at his tags for nostalgia's sake.

I'm really just a plain old Vitamin, unfortunately. You see, the EA/Dice gods decided that this time around, with Battlefield 2142, that they would only allow a 14 character maximum for their player's profiles! Would this stop me from using my long-used, tried and true internet handle and Battlefield 2 J-10 target??? No one had ever beaten me to it in any game or website...would the mighty Selectronic Farts lock me out? No freaking way. They didn't even consider that I could merely split my handle between the tag and player name! Hahahahahaha, I sure showed them!

By the way, people that have played online games with me using the MenacingVitamin tag usually just call me MV in voice. It's easy and I respond to it well. Just a heads up.

If I could change my BF handle to Menacing Victim I would. Hilarious.

I have got to find that CD again, that was one of my first ever RTS games. But the latest i have ever stayed up for a video game was at a friends birthday party. We and two others were up until four playing JAmes Bond Nightfire, and a few other games, after having started at around 7 the previous night. But alone, the only thing close to an all nighter was Pokemon Silver editon
