Pilum shots disappearing?

Question

If you fire a pilum shot and are immediatly killed, does your pilum shot disappear in mid air or does it land on the target ?

IDK, if a tree falls in a forest with no-one to hear it, does it make a sound?...
Just kidding, it does like any other rocket.

They also seem to have a very very far range. 'Bout a month or two ago, we were testing out the bullet drop on snipers and trying to make sense of the crosshairs, and decided to test out the pilium as well. It seems like it'll continue in a straight line for at least 300 m.

Semi-related question -- just how in the world do you aim a Pilum shot effectively? I've found that at least 25% of my shots do not go where aimed -- they either go high or low or whatnot.

I'm pretty sure if the shot is already in flight then it will continue to its tartget but it you're killed while it is still firing it won't. I know I've shot a tank before and it killed me just after I fired but I still killed him too. The second part is just from what I've observed but it may just be due to latency.

ALL shots continue until they strike a object, boundry or 300m mark. I gotten plenty off kills after I been killed myself. Most commonly while you fire a AT-tracking missle and in mid guidance.

This also goes for bullets, tank rounds and gunship missles.

Re: Pilum shots disappearing ?

I think I have experienced times when it shows it firing on my screen, however it does not go. Maybe an issue of latency...

Re: Pilum shots disappearing ?

the pilum is always accurate within the second circle (the outside one). It can go anywhere in that circle. If you can put a target entirely within that outside circle, you will always hit it (provided it doesn't move, of course).

Oh, I thought it was a rhetorical thing, like the whole 'if a tree falls and no one's around to hear it, does it make a sound' type of deal.

I knew it wasn't, but I was just trying to make a joke.

I always wondered about that.
I mean, come on EA, it's 2142, and we can float some 3000 ton hunk of stuff with hover engines, but you can't make a 300 gram un-guided projectile go straight? It just does not make sense.

Re: Pilum shots disappearing?

In my experience, if you are killed while any of the engineer shots is in flight, your shot will NOT hit its target. I haven't done any kind of testing on this, but I've noticed every time I've had someone lined up, fired and then died, I haven't gotten any kind of kill notice. It's happened often enough that random chance should have allowed one or two kills by now.

Re: Pilum shots disappearing?

I would agree with that; it does seem that if you are killed, your Pilum round in-air, dies along with you.

And while it may be 2142 and we can have levitating tanks (and Titans!), we also have sniper rifles with ammo that has zero travel time, and no effect from wind or gravity.

What a wonderful world it will be...

Re: Pilum shots disappearing?

Haha, sniper rifles are not an insta-weapon. Oh boy they are not. Gravity effects them a whole bunch as well. After 180ish and further I think, you'll start to notice bullet drop and delay. Longest delay I've had has been around a 1/4 of a second, dunno how much of it was lag, but for all the people I was hitting, it seemed like this was about right.

Be interested to see this pilium thing though, might check it out later if I get a chance.

Re: Pilum shots disappearing?

I've never really tested the sniper in 2142, but did in BF2.
