Re: Nostromo Loadout
I found this for a pretty good price...

...but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who uses something similar that they think is better? I'd hate to buy this only to find out next week that I should have spent the money on the uber gamepad *name here*.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I am pretty sure that I purchased mine for $29 at BestBuy, might have been with a coupon or something - I don't recall anymore. I looked at the other game pads that they had and wasn't really that impressed with them, either they were too big, too clunky, or just plain ugly. And most are a few dollars more than the n52, not much though.

Cool. I just had a birthday on Sunday so I can definitely con the wife into letting me pick this up. LOL

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I've been using the n52 since it's release and the n50 before that. I've gone through 2 of them so far (the D-pad broke). I'll upload screenshots of my config when I get back home.
Out of curiosity, does anyone use the Zboard gamepad?

Re: Nostromo Loadout
well, my crouch key is on the top row, but that's never bothered me. I rarely have to crouch, strafe left and move forward which is the only place that it'd bother me. My spring key is on the second row, and it's on my pinky (06). That's basically where my pinky rests, so it's really easy for me... and I tend to sprint a lot (hardly ever wear heavy armor).

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Aye, light is where its at for sure!! You think you'd be screwed with less protection, but that extra sprint helps you run away and survive instead of taking too many hits and going down. Heavy seems to protect your chest mostly.
Anyways....
Zboard, never used one, and wouldn't. Think it'd be something if you were either bad, or just getting into gaming, the big keys would help I bet.
The only reason I see something like the n52 as being worthwhile is that its just only a bit bigger than your hand, placing you in complete control of a buncha keys close together.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I've used nostromo n50 and n52 since they were released. I now use the ZBoard. The Zboard took awhile to get used to, and it has its ups and downs. It's easier for me to cycle through weapons and jump - but harder to prone and activate vehicle shields (I've completely done away with Zboards default config and customized it). Everything else is about the same. Unless you extensively use the n52s multiple color modes, which I never did for FPS, they both have about the same amount of buttons within range. The one advantage with the Zboard, however, is you're on your keyboard, so it's easier to access your map, spawn screen, soldier screen, etc, without taking your hand far away from your soldier controls.
I've attached my BF2 n52 profile. I'm pretty sure I used the same one for BF2 and BF2142. I think the only thing I did was within BF2142 change the key settings for commander and voice chat, as they were switched around from BF2. What smart-ass dev did that to screw with us?
As for the reason why I switched to the ZBoard it is because my wife hated the extra clunky gaming device on the desk, so I compromised with the ZBoard. And it was a win-win for her because I'd normally use the natural keyboards and she prefers standard, which I'm liking more myself again

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I got the thing today, nice.
Thoughts. I've setup the keys like i like them and reaction time has to be better with this thing. Beacuse i don't need to look to find keys anymore and i can map everything to what i like. But i will need some time to learn and adjust, so go easy on me.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I use the default WASD on the N52, and have my weapons mapped to all the other "keyboard" keys, with the exception of the knife, which is mapped to the mouse. My pinky hits two shift keys, the actual "SHIFT" key, and a RedShift which brings up other options. The main use I have for the RedShift state is the commo rose. Regular button hits regular commo rose, and RedShift commo rose is the tactical rose. It's good for things like that. I use the D-Pad for things like crouch, prone, and reload, and the thumb button is the spacebar for things like jump and eject.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Well, yes, you probably could, but its more of a "replacement," for a keyboard I think.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Ya, it's because I find myself crouching/proning and reloading far more often than switching weapons, so it's nice to have that on the thumb, while I use my fingers to maneuver the WASD.
While sniping from cover, it's easy to pull back on the D-Pad for crouch and pop up, and do snap shots, even while shuffling left and right, for example, while I'm behind a wall.
