Re: Nostromo Loadout
i have both the g15 and the n52. I got the g15 mostly because, if you can believe it, when i got my new computer last year I needed a keyboard and I went to best buy to pick up a cheap ibm one. I only had two options: ergonomic or g15, so i went with the g15.
Anyway, I'd say while the g15 is nice, it's probably not worth the extra money. I use the LCD screen a lot to see who's talking on teamspeak, and it's kind of nice to be able to check my CPU/RAM usage when I'm in game, but those are the only real uses I have for it. The programmable buttons are good, and if you look around you can do a lot with them, but I hardly use them to be honest.
On the other hand, it does look pretty cool, and it's not quite as nerdy looking as a Zboard.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I've been using the N52 all i can, and performance is improving.
There is not doubt that switching weapons goes alot faster than before, there's a lot less fiddling for the right number key on the keyboard. This kind of fast change from say Voss to pistol was not possible before and is the biggest improvement with it.
And using a dedicated button to zoom the minimap and opening the map has really been helpful for battlefield awareness.
Movement works maybe a tad better, but i'm still working on the rewiring of my brain so all things will improve still me thinks.

Yeah... Have you seen there Fang gamepad? It looks like a nerfed up universal remote. Made me laugh when I saw it.

Out of curiosity, does anyone use the Zboard gamepad?

I use the ZBoard. I started BF2142 with the N52 but found that the N52 had too few keys (I use a keyboard tray and cannot have both the keyboard and a pad within reach). Here's another post on the pads: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...tml#post633750

Re: Nostromo Loadout
shift keys can be very difficult to get accustomed to and half the time I'd hit the key before the shift and so it wouldn't work. In that regard, I prefer the ZBoard, because it has more easily accessible buttons without getting into the confusion of the shift keys. I just wish they'd release a board that did away with the annoying large WASD-QE keys. I'd rather have 4-5 regular keys on the top and 3-4 keys on the bottom.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Pinky = Shift. I've hardwired my brain that way. Even the actual Shift key, for run, is on the pinky.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Yeah Waffle, that thing looks pretty nice, I've been thinking of checking it out for awhile. Anyone ever look at the blank keyboard that has LEDs in all the keys that animate what they are used for? It was originally going to be awesome, but due to costs/feasibility, I think they cut back on a lot of stuff. I'll try and find a link later on.

You know, I used that on my n52 for the longest time, but I just couldn't get the diagonal shifts down reliably. I'd spend far too much time standing in the middle of a road, trying to get back to my motion mines after having killed someone or taken out some armor spontaneously, and would die before I'd get to mine the road properly. So I used red shift for weapon swapping and just included the normal movement buttons on it, as well, so I wouldn't have to stop moving to switch weapons. I also have a shift for vehicles, but I'm thinking about changing it from a toggle shift to a momentary shift; I keep bailing from a vehicle and forgetting to turn it off.

Yep I don't use diagonals on the swiss cross either. Mine is setup like:
Code:
Normal Red-Momentary
Main Wep Pistol
^ ^
Ammo/Med Box<--o-->Equip1 Knife <---o---> SL Item
v v
Equip2 ScoreBoard
And Frags are where 'Q' would be on a normal keyboard
So, everything that is high priority is on the normal state, and things that are lower (like pistol/knife) are still accessable, but require the shift also.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Is it just me or is the n52's red thumb button a little too stiff?
Might have to pop mine open and see about "adjusting" its tactile tension.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Yes, the big red button is stiff and in a somewhat awkward place. I have it set to commander comm (9 out of 10 times talking to the CO I'm usually not moving), seems to work well enough.
I have my Red Shift state (momentary) on my index finger (bottom row, last key to the right). I found, after much trial and error, that this worked best for me. It allows almost full range of movement while sprinting or crouching (forward, back, left strafe, and with a minor stretch of my middle finger - right strafe). I have all eight "weapon slots" on the cross and can switch between most without hesitation. The knife, pistol, 'nades, and SL item are all in the red shift state. Learning which weapons were where for each kit in which shift state probably took the most amount of time and I still occasionally flub the motion mines and bait, but not that often .
I honestly can say that if the Nostromo did not have the shift states, I wouldn't be using it for 2142. With the shift state, the only time I ever need to pull out my keyboard tray is when there is a need to type something into chat. Between the n52 and my older G5 mouse, I can do everything else, including VoIP and TeamSpeak's "Press to Talk".
