Re: Nostromo Loadout
Whew! Spent a couple hours last night setting up my keys. Fun and exciting, but it's taking me awhile to get them just like I want. The upside is I finally broke down and figured out how to get my squad and commander VOIPs programmed on to my extra mouse buttons for more effeciency in game.
I LOVE using the D-pad for switching between all my "primary" weapons (ie Voss, Defib, Rockets, Medhub)! Very fast, and it seems to minimize those errant hits of the wrong key and bringing up the medhub when going for the Voss.
Haven't played in live action yet, just been practicing against the singleplayer AI idiots. May give myself one more night tonight of single player action to develop that second nature feel to it before I dive right in and play for real.|TG-55| Infantry Division - Captain

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Okay, I just picked it up.
Wow this is going to take some getting used to. I'm not a very big fan of the 'spacebar' button - seems like it's just a bit too far out of the way. And that big red button is ridiculous, needs like 15 pounds of pressure to push it in, requiring me to clutch the whole speedpad to stop it from being pushed around as I mash it with my thumb...

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Yeah, on mine, I just set the big button to my TS push to talk, as in game it won't be used as much as many of the other keys, buttons. The spacebar placement does take a little getting used to I'm finding too. Obviously we're used to it being in the same horizontal plane as the rest of the keys, not dropped down below them. After goofing around with it for a few hours, I was slowly getting a little more used to it. I think it will be interesting to try to go back and use the regular keyboard after I'm completely acclimated to the N52.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
Once you get used to it, you won't be able to play on a keyboard again. The red button is silly. Way to much force necessary to actuate it. I also find the scroll wheel pretty useless. The D-pad for weapons selection is the best feature. You'll find that with your thumb hovering on the D-pad, it becomes quite easy to hit the space button when you need to jump.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
It seems that I have to push it too with a bunch of force though, because just hitting the one corner doesn't actually push it far enough to activate...
I'm using Lorax's setup because I'm too lazy and indecisive to make my own - the 'shift d-pad' for knife / pistol might have to change... way too much coordination required that way to pull out the pistol, which has saved my life many a time. I dont' think I have mouse4 / 5 bound to anything, maybe that's a good place.
What does 'left alt' do by default? Why's he have it on the mousewheel....
The biggest problem for me with this thing is this - I don't use WASD. ESDF is the WASD of champions, and losing a whole row on the pinky side of things really hurts - given how ones hand sits on the N52, it's clear that adding another row on the left side would be comfortable and easy and, well, I'd buy it in a heartbeat
Also it does appear I still need the keyboard to change positions in a vehicle...Last edited by Uranium - 235; 10-21-2008 at 06:24 PM.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
This is true. I have a G15 keyboard with the extra G keys sitting right next to my nostromo. I have several of those keys bound to the F keys so I don't have to go far to switch positions.
I agree that the nostromo could have easily used another row of keys on the left.

Re: Nostromo Loadout
This is a major problem, IMO. I recently picked up an n52te to replace a failing n52, and I've found the space bar button to be horrible. I never had issues with using the old one for jump, but the te is giving me fits.
FWIW, I'm using both now -- I have color shift mappings for the n52 for Assault, Vehicle Driver, Engineer, Support (in order,) then I have the n52te set up for SL, Recon, and Command.

Excuse my necromancy, but I just picked up the n52te at Best Buy and boy do I love it! If you have extra X-Mas money it makes a great late gift for yourself!

Re: Nostromo Loadout
I've toyed with the idea of getting one from time to time, but I can't bring myself to deal with moving my hand to type. Yes, I type enough to justify leaving my hand there, even on the TG server.
I am considering switching to ESDF now, after reading this. Would take some getting used to, but I could use the extra buttons. I'll need practice time, though, so that'll be sometime in the future.Bucklin out.
