Plans for Hosting First Strike ( FirstStrike ) Mod?
Howdy Folks,
Ran a search in the forums to see if there's been any talk on the First Strike ( FirstStrike ) Mod to no avail - can anyone point me to some threads with info on TG plans to host the mod, or if there are none... can we start that discussion? For reference: firststrikemod - dot - com -Phorcast |

Is first strike the one modifying a bunch of weapons, like the sniper rifles, and some weird version of a pistol that takes your own health to shoot? Or am I completely off base as usual?

The questions are definitely out there for those of us who haven't been a part of the dev or betatest teams: Is it good? Does it play well? Does it lend itself mightily to TG-Style play? etc... Despite not having answers to those questions, I'm excited about the mod.
For my part: 1. It'd be great to hear from an admin in this thread (or another) to lay-out or link-to the process that TG uses to decide whether or not a mod will be a TG-Hosted mod. 2. Further, it'd be great if we could use this thread (or another, if more appropriate) to rally some TG-ers together around a few FirstStrike servers, for team-play, once the demo is out (assuming the demo is a server-client demo). Any thoughts/feedback on those two items? - Phorcast |

Well, this didn't wind up being a very popular thread, but I persist!
The release date for First Strike is Friday, Sept 28 - anyone interested in meeting up to get a squad together, PM me please. I'm excited about the teamplay focus the FS team is putting into their mod - from the news release today: "Ok, so the standard game of battlefield 2 or 2142, you jump in the game, your next few moments are most likely spent sprinting to a flag, killing one or two people on the way, then capturing the flag. You then get up to another person, die, spawn, and repeat. This is all very well and good to win conquest games, but all it results in is a bunch of tiny skirmishes across the map. We are aiming to change that in FirstStrike. Part of the whole concept of our mod is for the players to take part in an actual battlefield. ... To that end we've embraced gameplay that encourages actual combat and engagement: the first step was withering fire. By having multiple people needed to take down a target that automatically centres battles on large obvious targets like vehicles. The focus on support classes and defensive gear also makes group-centric combat more of a reality. The team that keeps itself protected and alive stands a far better chance than individuals who just run around rambo'ing it up." |
