Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
Baur and Bauer is a German last name and it means Farmer. Bauer is the correct spelling, Baur came up for a short time in the medieval times when a portrait painter called his shop Malr (Maler == painter).

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
I like the Baur over the Krylov, but it also falls in line with the map and your style of play. I haven't used the Voss much since I only played BF2142 for about a week and haven't unlocked it.
On bigger, more open maps I'd say without a doubt the Baur. It's more accurate, kills in less shots, but more importantly, more likely to hit at a distance. Most of the time I leave it on single shot, and if someone pops up close I tap the fire button quickly. It's not as terrible as it sounds. While not superior, with practice your chances of survival aren't bad. On the more open maps I feel nekkid without it now. ![]() ETA: With the Baur I'm constantly torn between the shotgun or PK rockets. Even in city battles I'm starting to like the Baur, switching to the shotgun close range. |

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
It's a strong weapon versus armored opponents. Just a few aimed rounds will take down most tangos.
It's my preferred weapon for heavy engagements.

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
*scratches chin on what i think of the baur...*
I really prefer the voss or starter weapon for most engagements, they allow for medium damage and a long battle time before you have to retreat to reload. I especially like the krylov when I'm on PAC team for its accuracy and balanced damage =D Thats just my preferance, I do think the baur is a great weapon in single shot though, with a little practice countering the recoil you can outsnipe a sniper with it ^^ just click really fast! Single shot can be made into something like a 3 shot/6 shot burst if you click fast enough, and single shot doesn't give as much recoil so you can aim more :P

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
I will change between the voss and the baur in a game depending on what the current objective is:
If defense then I use the Baur to single-shot/snipe approaching attackers from a vantage point. If attacking then I use the Voss on full auto/short burst and a hell of a lot of cover on the approach. The Krylov is great but only useable half the time and the Scar is useless - instead of it having a single shot function you should be able to flip it round and beat people into submission with it - 2142 has a serious lack of bludgeoning weapons IMHO - try to imagine 50 players armed with baseball bats ![]()

No, unless Baur isn't supposed to be German.

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
As its been said time and time before. The rifle you use is mostly personal preference. Some guys will preach the Voss over everything while others will swear by the Krylov. Its just what you are most comfortable with. I personally will use the Krylov if I'm PAC and the Voss if I'm EU (or steal a PAC assault kit hoping for a Krylov). I will use the Baur on the larger maps like Suez and Shuhia and occasionally on other maps if the mood suits me. As far as how its used... short bursts (or single shot at extreme range) while kneeling and scoped.

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
Oh that's quite simple. Just tell them that you're the good team and the OpFor is the terrorists and that they are holding his daughter hostage. Then release him into the wild. He'll do the rest while you sit back and relax.

I've yet to experience the Baur's recoil and I'm probably suffering form "grass is greener" syndrome, but overall I feel like I've wasted two unlocks on getting the Voss (the smoke grenades, which I've found completely useless, and the Voss itself), and my plans to go up the Recon Lambert tree are being severely compromised by my desire to see if the Voss is as mediocre as I think it is or if it really is just me sucking at BF2142 like I do at every other PC game. It might not be so bad if half of the Assault class's unlocks weren't lackluster, especially considering every other class has two fully useful unlock trees... |

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
really all about style of play. If you're more into slower-long-range engagements, then the standard or Baur is for you. If you're into very up-close-and-personal style of play (like me), you're better off with an SMG (which the Voss fits perfectly if you're assault).
The Baur also works pretty decently at close range, but it's definitely designed for long range (can usually get a guy long range with 2-3 hits whereas the voss takes 4 to 6 on single shot).

Re: Everybody's opinion on using the baur
I've also been disappointed by the Voss' spread, even in close quarters. I suppose I just need to consistently steal the Baur of someone's corpse. :P
Incidentally, and this is completely off topic, how does the Lambert carbine compare to the Voss? |
