Hey guys, I am new to TG, so I decided to post a thread asking everyones opinion on how to use the baur. I have my own, but I've heard quite a few other opinions that sound very helpful. So, you can post your opinion in a reply below. Cheers and thanks, Rob

well I was first told that to use the baur properly, you should have it at long range in single shot. That for me just didn't work as the high recoil made it difficult. So instead I use it at close range, as it's mighty power can wipe out multiple infantry with ease, and where as it may only have a 20 clip size, it does have a fast reload time to make up for it, meaning that you can back into the fight quicker.

Also a tip, if you are shooting in full auto, try to slowly move the mouse down whilst doing so as this will counter the recoil.

Use it on single shot unless you are < 20m away from someone. In close quarters 1v1 battles, unscoped circle strafing on full auto always worked fro me.

I'm not a full-time Baur user, but I do like to carry it occasionally if I'm playing assault on one of the bigger maps like Suez. I just about HAVE to set it on single-shot - the recoil on auto is just uncontrollable for me. It's better in close quarters than most people think - you just have to go straight for the head and fire rapidly in single-shot.

I searched some old threads for info on how to practice aiming, and found a number of recommendations for using the Baur. They all said to carry it as your primary weapon for a few days, set to single-shot. Then switch back to whatever assault rifle you prefer. I did this and it helped me. It teaches you to fire more carefully and selectively, and to aim for the head.

Good advice... The Baur when used single-shot can be very effective at head-shotting approaching infantry from a distance. Esp. nice since you don't have to be using the girlie Recon to do it (just kidding all you recons out there!).

A lot of people like using it as an equivalent of sniper rifle for assaults. The smaller clip size is actually the main problem of Baur as the recoil can be be somewhat adjusted for by either staying single shot, or firing in bursts or compensating by pushing your gun slightly down at the end of a prolonged burst. That being said, I suck so you don't normally see me scoping in and firing one shot at the head over and over causing everyone to fall dead unless they are standing behind the wall around Statue where the only visible spot is the top of their head depending where you stand. My personal bursts with a Baur are about 3-4 bullets, repeat. While it may just be me, it feels as if the recoil from each shot in single shot recovers much faster than trying to manually single shot on automatic. This may or may not be true since I've tried manually single shotting and trying bullet tests with very similar results to actual single shot mode.

I normally only switch to automatic with the Baur when I expect close range combat like assaulting a flag or moving inside of a building/narrow alley. Otherwise, it stays in single shot unless I feel as if anyone can get the drop on the squad. It does work as a sniper rifle fairly decently (the wild recoil makes me smirk every time) but I can't seem to get moving head shots with it so I just go with easy body shots or rockets. Rockets tend to reveal your position unfortunately though.

At close range, spray and pray does work as long as you don't run out of bullets but unfortunately, I find the Voss and the sheer amount of bullets it spews and holds to be slightly better. Despite what other people experience, I found the damage difference between a Baur and a Voss to be somewhat substantial. That extra one/two/three bullet(s) may not seem like much when the Voss has such a high clip size but it may mean taking down a person before they reach cover.

That being said, I'm hardly "pro" at using the Baur but at least it's one of my favourite weapons as an assault. I've been trying the Voss lately but eh, it's going to be a long time before I get decent stats with it.

Most of my suggetions have been touched upon so I won't repeat them, however, there is something to be said about your play style and the Baur, The Bauer is ideal for hanging back and being a sweeper for you squad, it allows you to support your squad without being in the middle of a close quarters engagment, many times you can eliminate enemy threats and still have time to run up and rivive any squad mates that have fallen.

Two/three shot bursts aiming at the upper chest when: 20m < enemy < 50m. (Can kill in one burst if you are lucky.)
Single shots when: enemy > 50m.
Full auto ownage when: enemy < 20m.

Always crouch when firing unless you are firing over cover. The instant accuracy boost is very useful in getting the headshots.

the biggest thing that will determine success with the baur is playstyle. the baur is a hammer. it is like throwing rocks that move very fast. it has massive recoil. I almost never use it on single shot. I like to pack the herzog with the baur. I will usually play towards the back of the squad if I have baur. I will then focus on enemys that are attacking my squadmate. the herzog is good when your 20 clip goes to empty and some fool sees you run around a corner thinking you need to reload.

Thanks for your opinions guys, I beleive most of us can be agreed that the baur is most effective at long range, and can also be very effective at short range, but only when used properly and carefully. One comment however: when covering the rear of your squad might it be better to carry rockets, so that you can still kill snipers who hide behind corners? Just a thought

to be honest, i am not very good with the Baur, i guess i should use it more. It's not so much the recoil as it is trying to kill someone at range with multiple hits. After the first hit, they start running, which makes it extremely difficult to kill them (for me at least). At closer range, it is wicked.

For aiming practice, i suggest carrying around a sniper rifle as your primary and go in mid-range combat engagements (between 20 and 50m). You learn REAL fast to be selective of your targets and when to shoot. You usually only have one shot, or you are dead, so you learn to be careful of how you aim.

Most TG players are Rocket whores, hang around the server long enough and you'll see we probably use more rockets than regular ammunition. :P

As far as the AR situation

Baur - Long range
Krylov/Scar - all around
Voss - CQC

All rifles can be used in all situations correctly, but the Voss and Baur are slightly more specialized.

I picked up a kit with a baur last night and forgot how much i used to enjoy using this weapon. I am going to play around with the baur again for a while instead of the voss to try to get a feel for it once again.
