Pretty much.

The extra unlocks add greatly to the game and you'll eventually get tired of relying on field upgrades to load you kit the way you want it to be loaded. Also, Frosty Pfriday is something you'll be able to participate in as well, which has been great fun over the last few months.

Well I picked it up. Right now I'm Sgt Major Gold, and it seems I got 1 extra unlock for it.
(An unlock without gaining rank).

Maps are pretty nice looking, too bad it's probably the only mini expansion.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

it would be nice if a big expansion pack came out that had the NS integraded with the new expansion pack.

The IDS is immeasurably useful, the extra rocket is fantastic, the recon decoy/extended camo are probably the dirtiest two pieces of equipment you can put together, the motion mine bait and extended smg clip more than speak for themselves, and the clark RDX is a barrel of exploding laughs waiting to happen.

Is the Recon decoy really worth it? I sometimes see it when I get the squad upgrades, but I never add it to my kit, as I feel there are other things that are worth having more. Opinions?

It helps doing cloaked runs if you're trying to break through a locked down point like Toll Station, since I believe it basically removes the effect of the support helmet and other detectors as long as you remain in the radius of the beacon. Its a very, very specific piece of gear, but can be useful in the right situations.

Ever see diamonds on your HUD that don't belong to anyone, they just float there or show up randomly? That's the decoy in action.

I was under the impression the the decoy only removed your red dot from the minimap while in the radius? Meh.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe if you move around while the decoy is deployed and you are within a certain radius, you will leave a trail of diamonds, but none of them mark your actual position. At least this is what we found during a practice session one night. It also removes your red dot from the map as well, which is extremely handy.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

From tinkering with it and trying to find out what it does, this is what I've learned:

Once dropped, the Decoy will absorb your radar signature and net-bat diamond, as long as you are within 60m of it. If you cloak/uncloak within that 60m radius, you netbat diamond will be placed on the decoy. If you run outside the 60m radius and decloak, you will get a diamond on yourself and the beacon is pretty much just left sitting there. 60m is plenty of playroom for most flag rushes/recon runs. Also, if someone tries to manually spot you, they will either not be able to spot you at all, or your "spotted," icon will appear over the decoy (haven't really gotten good results on this part).

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

At the price of a movie ticket, Northern Strike is well worth the cost. The maps are a lot of fun and some great rounds are played on the second server when it hosts the booster pack.

Port Bavaria... Assault Lines as EU. Nothing is better than having to pod up and take over one of the docks.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

after I bought it... some servers wouldn't let me on.

"this server doesn't allow those with modified content on" or something such.

If this is an official expansion, why doesn't it allow it to just auto-off or something?

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

The server you were attempting to connect to probably only supported BF2142 pre-expansion. So technically your "expansioned" BF2142 client has modified content. Just a guess but an educated guess.

Once you have installed Northern Striike you have to re-patch 1.25 again and then you will no longer have modified content.
