Back in the olden days of early September, I'd hop on the conquest server at around noon Pacific daily. It was always pretty close to full (if mostly publicos.) Then I went away for a few weeks. I got back this week and it's been a ghost town.

I assume it's not because everyone left the server looking for me. Any ideas what happened? Somebody farted?

Well, with all the new games coming out now lots of people are changing over. Especially Team Fortress 2 seems to be a great success here at TG. The whole 7th has already switched to TF as well as tons of other former Battlefield 2142 players. To be honest, I'm not sure for how long this success will last, though, as Team Fortress 2 doesn't seem as great as everyone claims to me.
Anyway, it could also be more people are just tired of Battlefield 2142, like me. And I will change to other games this fall/winter as well.

I think there are a few things going on. The primary one is people are leaving 2142 for other games and those people are not being replaced by new members. 2142 has been around a long time now and support for it at TG is dwindling. I look at the numbers browsing the 2142 forums at any typical time, and they are much smaller than they used to be. Our server is empty more often than it used to be and the 2nd server is empty all the time. Squads like the 7th have all but dissapeared from the server and some of the 3rd are starting to burn out on it now too. The admin team is doing all it can at this point to keep the game alive and well at TG. but it falls on our members to keep this game active. get on teamspeak, seed the server and try to attract new peeps to the TG way.

I have to say that I agree with you but I am not sure what the reason is. Maybe some people have moved on to a new game like quake wars or team fortress 2.

Haven't tried TF2 but they can have QWET all they want. Will save my money on that title.

BF2142 came along just at the right time and helped bridge the gap between many titles and the upcoming Fall release season for gamers. There will be plenty of members that move on to the next best thing, but I am sure a solid group will remain with the title for quite some time to come.

The main problem for me is school (and school related activities). And even more recently, i got my PS2 back from my sister and have been playing Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Guitar Hero.

Also, one more thing... HALO 3!!!
I don't have it, but when i walk down my dorm hall, every few doors i walk by has Halo sounds coming out of it :P

With all due respect I think some of the server decline might be the result of an unsporting habit which is somewhat peculiar to the TG servers.

Please allow me to digress, after hearing about your much vaunted team oriented dicta, I was very excited to finally participate in the kind of teamwork I knew in the Army. However, I soon discovered this interesting little trick used by many of the TG squads I encountered. Here's how it works, one TG member forms a squad then immediately locks it, then seconds latter the squad fills with six TG members and is locked again. If you are fast enough you can squeeze in, but I usually get booted from the squad shortly there after, so it's to no avail.

After experiencing this time and time again I finally gave up on the TG servers and started playing on servers that forbid squad locking. I fully acknowledge that I am new to FPS games, and as such am not the best player in the game, but that's what I came here for in the first place, to learn. Yes, I know if I become a supporting member, or join the irregulars, in time I can probably work my way into the TG squads, but I chafe at elitism in any form and refuse to become a part of it.

You guys have so much to offer the BF 2142 community, I encourage you not to squander the good that you can do on an exclusionary practice that ultimately serves no one.

I must say that I was able to get into a TG squad for a whole round once and it was fantastic! If you were to encourage your best squad leaders to form squads open to everyone and then teach them how to work as an effective team your servers would never be empty.

After a post like this I fully expect that I will no longer be welcomed in your community, or on your servers, but if it leads to meaningful change to the benefit of others in the future, I will be a happy camper.

What times do you play? The 9th usually plays around 9pm EDT almost everyday. If I see you on, I'll make sure we leave some room in our squads so you can experience the TG play you desire.
