Oops UCB camping

I didn't realise that taking out gunships as they left the UCB was considered camping it, didn't see the warning so I got kicked, fair enough. My question is how far away from the UCB do they need to be to be considered fair game?

Re: Oops UCB camping

My rule of thumb is orientation. If they're alert, oriented, and appear ready for a fight, fair game. If they're still taking off, or are just moving forward, let them be.

Another way to look at it: if you're getting an advantage based on your proximity to the UCB, you're too close. Pull back and defend a close flag, by all means, but running out for the purpose of hitting anything as they leave the UCB is out of bounds.

Re: Oops UCB camping

They have to be able to fight back. Gunships need a few moments to gain air and speed if they are to be used correctly, where as a tank and APC can fight nearly instantly. Basicly, a good guess is about halfway between the UCB and the closet flag.

Good job though. Atleast your making a atempt to correct this rather then find another server.

RGR that. I was defending oil station and dry lake, one of the gunships was flying low to the ground the entire time the only good shot I had on them was from the silo between the two flags. They tended to run for the UCB whenever I locked them and ended up taking out a TG squad that had the gunship from the other end of the map. I didn't even think of it as camping at the time, minutes before I warned a couple squad mates heading for the UCB that unless they were going for assets it was off limits, it wasn't until I got the PB kick message that I realised. Lesson learned and no hard feelings. I really wish that the chat system in that game was better though, warnings tends to zip right on past without being seen.

Well, a UBC isn't a safe zone either. If anyone or anything retreats back to the ucb after clearly leaving it, It's a killable target. So Gunships going back to repair can be shot down.

I gave the kick bacause 2 times in a row I was locked on and fired upon before I got 15 meters of the ground from a freash start.

Yea I'm not arguing the kick, I wasnt thinking and I deserved it. I was so focused on taking out the other group that I got into the habit of targeting whatever gunship was going to or from the UCB without realising I wasn't giving time for freshly spawned ships.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but anything that engages you from within the UCB is fair game?

That's right. You can only fire back when they engage you first. So, when a player shoots at you from within the UCB, he becomes a legal target. This doesn't mean you can shoot everything in the UCB now, only the player who opened fire at you can be shot at.

Does this mean if I enter an uncap to blow up the CO's assets and I'm fired upon, I'm allowed to fire back?

Back to the OP though -- I've played with DS, he's a very reasonable fellow. Gonna look to pack a SAAW when I see him on the other team though ='D

You may defend yourself, but you may not engage if you are not engaged. The only exception to this would be engaging someone who is repairing the assets you are tasked with destroying and keeping destroyed.

Please refer to the Battlefield 2142 Rules & Guidelines for further clarification.

Re: Oops UCB camping

Am I allowed to EMP grenade spam the Commander? And if so, is he allowed to return fire?

Does EMPing the enemy assets freeze them, so they cannot be used for a certain time, until the EMP affect wears off? And if so, can the commander of my team EMP and enemy asset to freeze it?
