Hold Spawn
Please allow me to define this for those who do not already understand. When A SL says "hold Spawn", that mean DO NOT SPAWN IN! DO NOT CHOOSE THAT LITTLE CIRCLE THING THAT YOU SPAWN ON!
Yes I know that it happens sometimes, I have done it. Let's run through the start up a a game.
1. Screen up - 2 minutes to go live
2. Pick a squad to join
3. Ask SL what kits they want
4. Full fill kit request, ask about special load-out request and acknowledge
5. Ask SL whether or not to hold spawn(for definition of "hold spawn", See above)
6. Spawn where and when told to!
This is very important, you should almost always hold spawn in the start of a map. If you do this, you will spawn on the SL and all be together.....ahh, such a nice feeling. When I request you to hold spawn and you do not, you have tactically hurt our immediate goal and endangered everyone in our squad. And DON'T EVEN ASK FOR A RIDE WHILE I AM DRIVING OFF! If it wasn't for our rules, I would stop the FAV and walk up to you and shoot you in the head for not following orders. Thank God for our rules!
If you die while assaulting or defending a flag, ask your SL where they want you to spawn. Unless your SL has already instructed you on this. I tend to tell my squad before we engage, wehre I want them to spawn. Usually it is on me, unless I die..then I try to assign a fall-back spawn point to eliminate confusion.
If you see your Sl is under heavy attack, ASK! You may be spawning into a certain death.
Any Questions?

Re: Hold Spawn
One thing to note, because I've been caught by this once of twice, when selecting field unlock for some reason it will spawn you in once you close the field unlock screen, so when selecting field unlocks click on an empty part of the map to clear your spawn point.

Re: Hold Spawn
The majority of us that will read this understand the concept of hold spawn...unfortunately, we have to educate the rest of the world in game. Usually, you end up feeling like a kindergarten teacher trying to get your students to hold their bladders until potty time. The funny thing is, the squad members that end up with wet bdu's are usually the same one's that bring their zeller when you say "everyone assault". In this case a time out may be necessary to correct the behavior.

Hah! My favorite is when you tell your SM's to hold spawn and they acknowledge you. Then they spawn in anyways and start a super hot debate how holding spawn is a waste of time... As I speed off to the battlefield...

Re: Hold Spawn
Yeah guys, it's up to us to help newcomers to our servers understand how we play the game. Therefore explaining everything pregame, using their names out loud and asking for their acknowledgment is REALLY smart for getting a good game going. Even though if half the squad knows it, the rest will benefit!
Nice wheels Reaper!

Re: Hold Spawn
It has come to my attention that some people may take this post in the wrong manor. It is by no means meant to scold anyone, just a reminder to listen and follow your squad leader's orders. Most of us, the TG'ers, no and follow the directions. As stated above, it is the newbies that do not understand. Hopefully they will read the forums, after experiencing the best gaming enviroment around, and understand what that order means.
I also wanted to give an example of the amount of frustration that can be caused by not following that simple order.
It is funny though, when you speed off and the Sm is screaming for a ride as you drive by. The best example is on Belgrade, time is most important and if I have tasked my squad with taking Statue and holding it then we must be first on the flag. Simply spawning too far from a buggy can mean the difference in turing the flag before resistance arrives or engaging in a full-blown battle right off the bat.
If I offended, sorry.
Live and learn.

This has happened to me too, and the method I've used to get around this bug (and other immediately spawning with no recourse bugs), is to deselect your spawn point before doing anything on your loadout screen, field unlocks included. Simply choose a nice, wide, blank area where there are no spawn points, and click, or click near an enemy base, and you will deselect your last spawn point without choosing a new one.

Re: Hold Spawn
Lately I've been caught when I do that as well. When I deslect a spawn it somehow has an annoying habit of changing kits as well (depending on where you click on the map in relation to the class select to your left). Many a times I've spawned in and tried to revive only to throw down a MM on the corpse instead. -.-

Ack, it gets tricky doesn't it? That's happened to me before as well. In addition, sometimes when that happens I'll spawn with NO loadout! Oh the humanity!
It just means I take an extra second or two to make sure this doesn't happen, because it really sucks when it does. Lately, there have been times when I've joined a server, and I'll insta-spawn in with no loadout, and no chance to even SEE the loadout screen. It will just dump me in the game with my gun, and nothing else, leaving me to kit-hunt during my first life. Fun.

Yeah I've had that happen as well, for some reason it's always with an assault kit as well. I can handle spawning with just an AR since extra kits are always around, what I hate is that it spawns you at your UCB even though all the action and your squad is on the opposite side of the map.

Re: Hold Spawn
I think there will always be some who don't listen.
Don't hold spawn, bring the recon kit, and don't stay with the squad.
Watching their bodies fall from the monorail is some consolation...
The other day I heard the SL give a really good, simple explanation of "holding spawn" and the reason behind it. I wish I could remember who it was and exactly what they said. Maybe that is one solution we could try. If I gave a good explanation like that, and someone STILL didn't hold, I would have no qualms about kicking them from the squad. I know sometimes it happens by accident, like Specterr said and that's different. All you have to do is speak up.
So here's my attempt at the holding spawn speech. PLEASE jump in and help me edit it.
"Four score and seven years ago, the squad stayed together and they kicked a$$..." No wait, that's not it.
"OK - I want everyone to hold spawn. When the rounds starts, don't spawn in right away. Wait for me to call you in, and spawn on me. That's the green dot. This way, I can get us all into the action quicker, and we can move together as a squad."

Re: Hold Spawn
That sounds really good, you may want to follow up with: "please make sure you ahve not picked a spawn pooint and if you ahve, click on an open area in the map." We do have about 1 minute by the time you have your squad and have spoken to them.

Re: Hold Spawn
Another piece to add into this: Holding spawn does not only apply at the beginning of a map. If the squadleader calls for a hold spawn during a match, treat it just like in the beginning.
For those who always ask "WHY!!??!?!?!":
First off it helps keep the squad together, better than all running around a flag area looking for the SL. Just because you spawn at the same flag doesn't mean your going to be right next to each other. Secondly, holding spawn to start a new tactic or plan. Like doing a roung two of the buggy rush! Three, helps the squad leader keep track of everybody, and it's much more efficient changing kits then, instead of saying "On your next spawn, please come in.."
In the mean time this will help you remember, then you can pass it on to your squadlings!

Re: Hold Spawn
I know alot of players including TGers that will hold spawn as they are asked. That is until the SL gets in the FAV, then they spawn in. There are some situations where the SL will call for you to spawn as he drives, saying "two in on me" or "room for two". But usually it is more tactically sound for the squad to continue to hold spawn until the destination is reached. That way if the SL runs into trouble (mines, obstacles, armor, bullets, pilum, rourche...etc.) only he will die, losing one ticket rather than 3 for a full FAV. So hold spawn means "hold spawn"! Not "hold spawn until I'm in the FAV". SL's: Do not be afraid to say to your squad "DO NOT SPAWN IN WITH ME INTO THE FAV! WAIT UNTIL I'M OUT AND CALL YOU IN!!!"
