Re: Reporting hostile contacts: direction.

I'm with sc1ence on this one. It's important to note direction, landmarks AND movement. What's good about the pulse system on 2142 is the fact that you can even get facing on the map. Don't be afraid to hit your 'M' key for a second, to get a wider picture of your surroundings. I do it all the time, and relay intel like crazy. For those who say there's no time, what about when you're loading up your gun? You run out of bullets some times, and those are good times to do a few spots with the commo rose, hit the 'M' key, get a better fix on the enemy position, and by the time your clip is loaded, everyone in your squad has a better picture of what's going on around them.

About enemy facing: By reporting enemy facing, you can actually give members in your squad a chance to peel around the OTHER side of the building, and completely blindside an enemy squad that is all facing in one direction. It's pretty hilarious when it happens, and your squad members love you for it.

Fair enough sc1ence. I've never much used compass directions and that may be because I've not squadded with people who use them extensively.
I'm looking forward to squadding with you now and learning to use them effectively.

The main idea is still relevant though: we should all strive to provide better contact reports.

Re: Reporting hostile contacts: direction.

Here's a graphic the 21st uses to help with contact report training.

For every single map you play, know which way is north and know the names of the flags and landmarks.

OTF stands for "on the flag" and can be further enhanced by adding compass direction for pinpoint reporting.

Expanding on the above directions, you can also use 'high' and 'low' to state if they're coming from an elevated position. Both South and North directions have a hallways above and below so it helps point your guns in the proper direction.

I just enjoy hearing Zhohar report that there is an "unhappy walker" on the Playground flag.

Re: Reporting hostile contacts: direction.

yeah you can know your map, or you can take the fun approach to a game and be like AHH PANIC.. urm, contact... somwhere over there,, look, ill shoot in the general direction XD

or

PANIC,, AHHH *runs in circles* ,,, RUN AWAY BACK TO BASE.....

no seriously :P im not amazing at contact reporting, but i generally know where im trying to say, and end up either explaining it or just saying, follow me ill show you.... eventually theyll see you and youll be in a fight XD..

or ill just squad up with zhohar, arithea or somebody and they can do it right XD

nice diagram ^

Re: Reporting hostile contacts: direction.

P.Drona - that is a really nice diagram! Very clear and concise..

I think the most authoritative source regarding information regarding contact reports has been written by Dslyecxi. Please refer to the link below.

Dslyecxi's Tactics, Techniques & Procedures Guide: Organization & Communication, Contact report
Link: http://dslyecxi.com/armattp2.html#contactreports

My only opinion is that the "ORIENT" portion of the contact report as many have mentioned previously is that the direction should be a compass direction. Exception is if you are in a vehicle with a squad-mate.
