Re: Playing to win (Balancing Offense with Defense)
The way I decide to ether attack or defend is based on the map and based on the situation. On Camp G and Berlin and i'm on PAC then my squad is usally attacking to get behind them and get there back flag. But on maps like Suaz and i'm on the EU side my squad always spawns dry lake and has three eng's two with SAWW'S and one with Pilum and I've yet to lose that flag as all three have mines and place them around the outside area and keeps armor from useing the main road and the SAWW'S have made it that enemy gunships fear getting near that flag.

Re: Playing to win (Balancing Offense with Defense)
I think that the size of the ticket lead is very important to consider. In a BFCL match, where the vast majority of deaths are countered by revives, 10 tickets is a significant lead. On the conquest server, 10 tickets is almost nothing. So, in the situation you described above, PAC would have a very slim ticket lead, and one flag which they absolutely cannot lose, albeit one which is fairly defendable.
In terms of positioning for the overall battle which has just begun, holding another flag would grant them a much more comfortable position. Grabbing South Town and pushing every which way is not what I am suggesting, but I do think that an organized attack on another flag will do a number of things: Provide a cushion for mistakes that are likely to be made Turn an avenue of attack into an avenue of defense Allow for greater defensive mobility Place the attacking team in a more comfortable position to try and slowly grind away the tickets from the defenders. I feel that a 10-ticket lead, and being one flag away from bleed, is a very weak position, and it is in the assaulting forces best interests to strengthen their position as quickly as possible. |

![]() The trick is being smart about it. For starters, you have your ENTIRE TEAM defending a single flag. You can put murderous kill zones in place with 3-4 squads acting in concert and blocking off all flanking avenues. IF your team is at all organized, losing that flag is highly unlikely. The thing you have to realize, is that by playing even 2-3 minutes of disciplined defense in this situation, that 10 ticket lead becomes 30-40 tickets with amazing speed. The EU team will send forces forward. It's a guarantee. Because they will do the same thing nuckj mentioned in his earlier post - go looking for action because doing so is 'fun'. But, they won't tend to do so in a truly organized fashion. Perhaps a single squad coming forward here and there. Since your team is on the defense and playing together, you can easily squash squad-sized incursions and wipe them all out without minimal ticket loss. Bam. You just picked up 4-6 tickets on them. Fun also lies in letting your opponent come into your ambush, wiping them out and then counter-attacking.
