favorite all infantry squad loadout?
a question for all you squad leaders: What is your favorite all purpose infantry squad load out?
for me it is the following: 1 recon with apm and rdx for flag control 1 support with shotty emp and ids 2 medics with rockets and defibs (these two are the assault role, typically they are on point with voss) 2 medics with smoke and defibs. (these guys provide cover and revives, great AR here is the baur on single shot for covering the guys at on point. they play more cautiously with their lives as their primary role is to cover and provide medical assistance to the assault guys.) What!? smoke not rockets?! Thats right. I think with the most recent patch that smoke is a very effective cover. Every squad should have at least one guy with smoke. If you have rockets, you tend to use them, and for most squads, having 4 rockets is overkill. You really only need 2, but those guys need to know they are the only ones with rockets and take their shots accordingly. If the above unit works together, they are unstoppable. The combo of firepower and being able to secure revives and cover with smoke makes the squad very effective. The recon can rdx and apm up a flag, or drop apms and rdx to cover our trail from people chasing down our squad if we break through a front. The support is really focused on supplying the squad and providing intel. The squad leader is usually support in this setup but it can be modified for most SL preferences. The recon and support both provide great info for the otus which the SL should be using in this squad loadout.

This very heavily depends on the map that I'm playing, but let's say I'm playing City Conquest, which is mostly what the TG server does, my ideal loadout is this:
SL: Assault medic with defib-rockets. -3 Assault medics with defib-rockets. -1 Engineer with Pilum, AE defuser, and motion mines. -1 Support with hearbeat sensor and infantry sonar (if unavailable, use sentry gun), main weapon to taste. I don't care much for the smoke nade since my first reaction when I see an enemy deploying that sort of thing is to rocket the hell out of it. To me, it's a big shoot me beacon, so as far as cover goes, I feel that the nade blows it rather than provide it. Engineer SM is to taste as well, depending on the map. PAC on assault maps will have little use for one, but I find the defuser to be a handy and quiet method to taking away APMs any defenders might have set up. I personally don't want a recon of any kind in the squad since there are usually far too many openings for APMs and RDX to effectively cover every nook and cranny. Coupled with the fact that TG is an FF-ON server, it's a rather explosive cocktail of teamkills waiting to happen.

Assault NetBat shows enemy health and kit.
Engineer NetBat shows enemy vehicle health. Recon NetBat makes it so red diamonds take a longer amount of time to fade away. Support NetBat detects whenever an enemy recon cloaks or uncloaks. Amount of help actually delivered depends on battle conditions. Needless to say, the engie can't contribute his NetBat if there are no vehicles around.

I run 4 different layouts depending on map either:
Sneaky (Camp G, Berlin) 1 Recon SL 4 Medics w/ rockets and defib 1 Support w/ shotty, EMP and IDS All Anti-Inf (Carebear,Tunis) 5 Medics w/ rockets and defib 1 Support w/shotty, EMP, and IDS Mixed (Belgrade) 4 Medics w/ rockets, defib 1 Engineer w/ Bait, MM 1 Support w/ shotty, EMP, and IDS Anti-Armor (Suez, Sidi, Verdun) 2 Medics w/rockets, defib 3 Engineers w/ Bait, MM 1 Support w/ shotty, EMP, and IDS

All about NetBat features that may not be obvious to the new people, and why sc1ence's varied squad is even more flexible and dangerous as a result.
I wonder why the above thread isn't stickied or referenced in a guide, because it's not documented at all, and it helps people win the information war that is 2142, if your squad is experienced enough to use the additional intel. Anyway, his squad assignments sound almost exactly like my favorite all-purpose squad, except I hear smoke is actually useful now. |

I run two layouts, depending on the map:
1. All medics, light armor. 2. 3 medics, 3 engineers, light armor. The squad's kit loadout is really not that important when such things are being discussed -- at the begining of the round. What is important is the ability to quickly adapt to any given situation. An engineer running with me to cap Comm Tower at Belgrade is a ticket waiting to be lost -- but it'd be pretty foolish to run a round of Belgrade without an engineer. It all depends on how adaptable the SL and the squad are. Fancy kit loadouts are like fancy battle plans: planning is indispensable but plans are useless. Yes, it's neat to ackowledge that at point 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 during the battle we will need 9 different loadouts because these will be 9 different situations requiring 9 different approaches but the sad fact is that 18 situations will happen and you have exactly 1 kit loadout to start with. It'd be more useful to advise the squad to keep track of fallen enemies and their kits such that they can change roles and adapt very quickly. Even now, there are a lot of people who don't know or don't use the g key to pick up kits off the ground. Equally, a SL should be quick enough to advise fallen soldiers to spawn a specific kit, and even be willing to let them die completely because the benefit of their new kit outweighs the loss of that one ticket.

All Infantry Load-out is 4 assaults and one Support. Support is usully mysefl, SL and I can swap kits quickly and get a revive if need be.
Sidi is a map that I usually call for 1 assault, 1 support, and 4 engy's. As others have said, the kits are situational and it really depends on my goals for that map. If I am on Belgrade and going to play with Armor, then I bring 2 Assault, 2 Support, and 2 Engy's. We can split into two fire teams and be self-sufficient for flanking armor. If I am on Belrade and plan to fight Infantry to Infantry, then we go with 4 Assaults and 2 Support. Different maps, different people, and different goals mean different kits.

I think the SL should have a defib, unless the rest of the squad is going to carry one. It's not that the SL should run around rezzing his squad when they go down, it's that when the SL goes down, there's a defib RIGHT ON HIS CORPSE for someone to swap out and save the push.
If everyone else has a defib anyway, the point is moot.

On the rare occasions I SL , and squad with newbs, it really makes me sad inside when I tell them to pick up my medic kit and revive me, and they go "Whuuuut?"
Anyway, if I do SL, here's my loadout- Feeling lazy- 4 medics, one engy(vehicle maps)/or recon, and one support. If I'm thinking about it- 3 medics (Rifle of choice, rockets, defib) 1 Engineer (whichever gun they prefer, Motion mines, AP defuser) 1 Support (Shotty if infantry/City map, MG if vehicle based, EMP mines and Pulse meter) 1 Recon (Lambert Carbine in City Maps, Sniper rifle in vehicle maps, RDX, Scope Stabilizer if using rifle, Cloak) One medic is always with one specialist. SL (i.e. me) is recon, staying back and stealthing to flags if need be. This, I find is a good all-purpose loadout IN THEORY. As long as the recon is good, as well as the other specialists, it should be fine.

That...
Never... Works... because to be totally invisible as Recon you would need the 'Ghost' and the IT-88 AC. while it would be cool to runn around invisible to radar (out to about 60m), and almost invisible to optical tracking. It would make you nearly useless, no RDX, no APM. The moment you open fire with any weapon, (Lambert, Zeller, or stock) you will be pounded to dust.
