Herzog AR-Shotgun

I've always been kinds curious about this unlock, especially, since I rarely see it used over the Pk-74 Rockets, but I've never been able to use it properly, since I don't engage enemies in short distance. So I'd like to know what it's like from those who have experience using it; how does it compare to the Clark shotgun in terms of power, and the Rockets in terms of usefulness?

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

Depends on the situation and the squad leader. The Herzog gives you the option of close quarters combat with the additional benefit of revives. Totally differnt class...support vs assault medic. This compliments the all assault squad nicely allows for more variety at load out.

Catch Azura on sometime and ask him about the Herzog--he's great with it. I'm decent, but nothing to write home about. Now that I'm getting decent with the Clark, I find that I tend to think like I'm using the Clark, which has seven rounds to the Herzog's four (?). That usually ends badly.

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

How is the damage compared to the Clark? Is it the same, but just with less rounds?

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

much weaker and less spread and damage falls off at a shorter distance. using the herzog is all about know when to use it. as for comparing it to rockets that is a tough choice, rockets are good for killing people behind cover and at far off distances, herzog is more of a tool to finish off hurt infantry in close range.

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

I prefer the Herzog, but rockets have their place as well. I pack the Herzog if I know that I will be crouching around corners more than usualor defending a flag in tight quarters.

Ah the Herzog, my specialty!

Well first, off you can't compare a Herzog to a Clark. Obviously, they are two complete different sets, and well it's like comparing Emp mines with Emp nades. The clark is more powerful, but unless you are planning on running around with just the Herzog out, then you'll be wasting your time using it.

To me, the Herzog is just as useful as rockets, but believe me many will disagree which is fine, because choosing the unlock is all about playstyle. If you are more comfortable in close quarter combat, or find yourself constantly in close quarters, you might find the Herzog a beautiful piece of art work. Then again, the Herzog's true power lies in how you utilize it WITH your rifle and the enemy you are facing.

Typically, the nicest thing about the Herzog is, while you are fending off a bunch of enemies and you are forced to reload, you are now given the chance to quickly swap to a powerful weapon. Which, greatly improves your survivability but also your ability to win up against some stacked odds. But also, the Herzog makes one hell of a surprise to the average player, an assault sees you reloading and dash straight at you only to be met with a shotgun? Cute huh.

An important thing you need to know though, the Herzog will generally give you one shot kills against light armor, but you really got to plan ahead and think through the situation quickly to determine when to pull it out. Trust me, it takes a good while to really get the hang of it. For instance, an enemy chases you around the corner, you know he isn't wounded, pulling out the Herzog and waiting for him to come around sounds like a great idea! But it isn't, he'll be able to pump you fast enough that he's got the advantage. After a few weeks, you'll find yourself constantly flipping between your rifle and herzog, creating a really neat playstyle.

I got a massive guide about the Herzog you should check out if your interested, lots and lots of info!

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

It's like what Azura said- The Herzog and Clark are like apples and oranges. The way you use them is completely different. While with the Clark, you generally have to hold fire until you're close enough, with the Herzog you have to fill them full of holes, and if you need to reload, switch to the Herzog and give him a coupla more holes to breathe through. In short, the Herzog is a second wind. It gives you that extra bit to help you get through at CQC (City maps, such as Camp Gib, Belgrade, Carebear, and Fall o' Berlin).

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

I much prefer the herzog to rockets , its harder for average players to be as deadly without rockets and to know how to use the herzog, but once mastered you'll find yourself disliking rockets. You might think that its rockets are perfect for clearing out flags well nades are just as deadly also ppl behind cover can 90% of the time be got with a well placed nade nade and if you have trouble shooting long range and always rely on your rockets try out single shot , more deadly and improves your accuracy.
Obviuosly you may be forgiven for using rockets in maps like tunis etc

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

Im starting to use the herzog now, problem is I dont know if its a glitch or not but with PKs or the herzog my first round will have 3 shots instead of 4, and most of the time I need that fourth shot to finish off a second guy.

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

Have you unlocked the expanded Northern Strike unlock that gives you 4 rockets (or upgraded to it)?

if you die and get revived you lose a herzog round, happens with rockets too, just one of 2142's bugs

Re: Herzog AR-Shotgun

I thought it was just me this happened to. I had it happening for weeks and then it just disappeared. For those that have not experienced this bug, it is beyond frustrating. You get so used to the fourth shot that not having it really throws your timing off.
