Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
Small things can lead to big things. A small adjustment I have been making in rocket firing recently has led to improved results.
When firing a rocket, it is expected that you zoom in and begin unloading the clip. When zooming in, the distance meter reads according to whatever the middle dash on the reticle is pointed to. If the enemy is hiding behind a wall or obstacle, zoom in on the wall/object AND increase the distance meter (distance at which rocket explodes) 1-2 notches to allow the rocket to explode exactly on the body allowing for maximum damage. Same applies if an enemy is in front of a wall. Zoom in on the wall and reduce the distance meter 1-2 clicks and unload.
It's a very simple concept that seems no-brainer but minor things like these at the right time can make a big difference. Try it out yourself!

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
It's been a while since this subject has been discussed. The range is actually decided by the TOP line, not the middle. When you range in (zoom in on an object), scroll forward one click so you are air bursting your rockets OVER the target and not in FRONT of the target.
Another thing: you don't always have to scope into use the rockets effectively. The rockets will detonate on impact when fired unscoped and if they hit something more than 20 meters away. There are times when this is useful, but I'll leave it up to you to decide when .

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
Thanks for the correction Lorax The benefit of this technique over firing unscoped is that it is more precise and provides maximum damage. Also, in certain situations where an enemy is hiding behind a wall and there is no wall behind him, adjusting the rockets will allow them to detonate right after traveling past the wall instead of exploding on the wall.

Correct. 99% of the time it is best to fire rockets using the scope.

Also, for those long range kills make sure you aim high, rockets have an arc to them, generally it's better to be aiming too high then too low, since a low rocket will hit the cover and do no damage while a high rocket will still do some damage.

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
I do this a lot. However, I normally try also to adjust for the direction and distance I think the target is going to move after I fire the first rocket. For instance, if the target has enough room to simply move backward, I can adjust my distance on the airburst to cover another two meters or so and still catch him. If the only direction the target can go is left or right, I try to strafe the rockets just a tad, instead of just pounding the exact same location. I don't know if that's something anyone else does, or even if it's a good idea, but so far, it's been working.

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
Definitely a good trick. I also like to "walk" the shots, adding a click between each rocket. You can clear out a whole side on Camp G...

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
Another great trick with rockets: they don't have huge deviation, so you can easily strafe while you're firing them from your scope to hit people.
The real great thing to do is to hit people as they change distance. You hit someone with your first rocket as you're running, and right before you launch the second one, add a couple of meters to your range. If done right, you can get that nice rocket to become an extra tasty snack of explosive, right in your enemy's noggin!

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
One other thing that can help if aiming at infantry from above it's better not to just fire blindly at them unscoped. Zoom in take away a notch then fire.
This has the effect of most of the splash damage going onto the person. I know it probably doesn't make ay sense but when as 2142 ever made sense.

If you target is in the open, learn how to dial in distances by using objects near or parallel to your target.

Make sure you now when to use them as well, I have seen people shooting these in close quarters and when a lot of friendlies are around and killing themselves or other teammates.

Another thing that helps to set distance is to look for med packs. Whether they're friendly or not you can see how far away the are one your hud. Also when I'm an SL and my squad is engadging another squad at a distance I like to set a move order near the enemy squad so my sm's can get a base distance.

Re: Great Success: Tidbit on PK Rockets
Smoke grenades> rockets.
You wish I was kidding. I think rockets are highly over rated. I almost never stay dead from a rocket when I am playing with my squad. I would rather have needed cover or distractions by the smoke, or even a sniper in my squad for that long range stuff.
