Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
It's perfect if you say that every five minutes or so. The second part is what more COs should focus on: letting your squads know where it's easy to break through. Oftentimes, especially on Conquest: Assault maps (Cerbere, Gibraltar) it's hard for a SL to decide what to do because he can't see a gap in the enemy forces.
When it's important for your people to break through, advise your SLs where the enemy ins't.Fight!

Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
Now that I think about it, also give an update after I give the intel I spoke of previously--"Squads 4 and 6 are heading east; everyone else defend Church and Roadblock." I'm always so afraid that everyone will head for the gap I just pointed out and leave our backside completely in the fire.
Thanks for the feedback, guys!
It's really getting me thinking about the way I command. Now if I can just turn that into improvement on the battlefield, it'll be great!

Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
Hmm, so communicating too much IS a problem. I'll keep your advice in mind, and work on changing the way I command. I'm used to "commanding" a guild in a game called Ragnarok Online, in which I pretty much am the equivalent of a Squad Leader in bf2142... just with 50+ squad members, so there really was no such thing as too much communication.
Gonna have to change my habits if I'm going to have success at COing BF2142 =).
On a side-note, would it be a good idea to state that I'm learning the CO position at the start of a round? On a possible plus side, it might draw more feedback from the SLs, but on a down side, it might cause less respect towards the orders I give

Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
I would say so, yes. I'm more likely to talk to a CO about an order I don't agree with if he's said he's new to the job. I'm also going to speak up more and be more vocal about what I do or don't need, rather than letting him sit there and (hopefully) be on the ball about assets.

Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
Yes, I will tend to try and help a new CO to keep an eye on things. I watch the map in a different way and ask for more SAT Scans and more direct questions.
"CO, need a SAT scan to ensure noone broke thru at Toll, check the back please"
Whereas, an experienced CO would have already done tht if an FAV got thru and we caught it.
You will get more immediate feedback, on the battlefield, from us if we knwo you are new.

Re: What did I do wrong? Commander
Noted, and will be used next time I'm commanding, thank you. =)
EDIT
Seeing the help generated from this topic, I'd think it would be a good idea. This thread has made me more willing to step up as a commander when our team doesn't have one. Maybe a SL thread will give people enough confidence to create their own squads, instead of joining whatever squad has room, regardless of how good/bad the SL is.
