I really hate this about the Otus. I tend to panic when I turn the corner expecting an enemy and he's not there. Really screws with me.

Put an IDS on it, you will get the best of both worlds.

I will occasionally use the beacon when defending specific flags (like Pond on Belgrade for instance), other than that I equip the Otus. Lately it has been very rare that I deploy it, not sure if that is I hate the bullseye it paints on you or simply that I forget about it (probably a combination of both).
