Thank you, thank you Sc1ence.
Timusafa - great point on "name of flag." Also, it should prevent complaining that it's too boring in the rear. Quote:

Re: 2142 squad leading basics
I think naming yourself after a flag is great but situational. You just simply can't do it all the time, and it really depends on defensibility vs. viability as a target for the enemies. A squad named "Toll Station" would be expected to be the squad that defends TS while Harbor is still being fought, or a squad named Reactor would be holed up in there on Sidi.
Alternatively you can be more flexible. Name yourself "Titan Assault", or simply "Defense".

Re: 2142 squad leading basics
i'd add to what science has so perfectly resumed
squad leaders should know theyr own personality if you know you play very well in defensive positions, forget trying to assault or, if you know that your strength is air-air or air-ground combat, then your squad will have to suffer. i played a lot as CO or SL (say 20% CO, 75% SL) and honestly without setting goals you wont be able to do a decent killing. (after all the game is about you killing more then you get killed + defending at least one flag) furthermore, knowing what your SQ members do good, aka x is a good reviver, y is a good sniper ... will be very useful in the planning stage, do it throughly, because during gameplay you'll very rare get the chance to do it. |

Re: 2142 squad leading basics
Mistic, although it is a good idea to play to your strengths as a SL, you also have to keep in mind the strengths of your SMs, there are more SMs in a squad than SLs. However playing to your strengths as a SL gives your squad a personality. If you keep it up, everyone will know what to expect of your squad and be more, or less, willing to join and help your cause.
Anyone who's been in any of my squads on Belgrade, or Berlin, should know my general strategies for both offense and defense. When I make a squad on Belgrade, I expect my squad to know exactly what I'm looking for (granted the Squad name KINDA gives it away). Also, a note on the NS beacon. I don't know if this would be allowed on TG or not, but there's a trick i learned with it. *removed*

If I had a mantra about squadleading it would be knowledge is power. Knowing squad member strengths is ideal. In a pinch you can judge the effectiveness of your squad in the first 4 mins of a round. I often will adjust the goals of my squad based on their initial performance in a round. Especially if I don't know the members well.
