Re: Solo TV gunship help

If you are asking if while you are the pilot can you switch to the gunners seat and take a TV missle shot the answer is sure but you will die in a ball of flames when your gunship piles itself into the ground without a pilot. You must have a pilot and a gunner, no way as a pilot to take TV missle shots.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

You can't solo switch perfectly, you're gonna leave yourself pretty open when you go into the missile mode. The best way I've found to do that is to hit up to at least 250m above the ground to quickly go into missile mode, line up your shot as best as possible, then right click out of missile mode and go back to flying. Its a pretty shaky operation when you're on a server with people paying attention.

Now, you can also set up a macro to quickly change seats, fire a missile and immediately go back to piloting. This doesn't give you as much control over where you're aiming, but its a bit safer. You have to learn where to aim the gunship to get a missile to hit. Its about 2/3 of the way between the pilot's aiming reticle, and the graphic at the bottom of the HUD, the one that shows the orientation of the gunner. There's a good screenshot somewhere on the forum showing where, I just can't find it at the moment.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

Actually, rage, I'd beg to differ. One of my friends who is obsessed with the gunship and plays bf2142 mostly just for for the gunship has been able to get solo TV shots fairly consistantly. Granted, accuracy is NOWHERE near as good as having your own gunner, but he's been able to do it. What he did, was make a macro on his mouse that does F2 -> Right Click -> Left Click -> F1. He knows where to aim in the pilot's seat for the TV missile to be aimed correctly, and he takes a shot and switches back to pilot. However it's like using a Pilum instead of a Mitchel/Sudvik, in that you can't control the shot, and if you're even slightly off, you'll miss. But it's good in a pinch if you're ever in a situation to utilize it.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

OK so my comment of NO WAY was a bit off but really in the spirit of the way we play here at TG, I would think the proper way to play with the gunship would be with 2, a pilot and a gunner.

I have to disagree with posting that Eroak.

that macro allows you to do something that you can't do under normal conditions.

granted I'm not an admin but thats sketch.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

When I solod Gunship I do it all with my fingers - not that hard with some practise. There should be no need for it on a normal TG server day tho. Its practical for some special situations like when there is REALLY no gunner to be found or for keeping the Gunship on Sidi alive without taking another man out of the fight. Also practical for scrims where every man counts.

I will direct you to these 3 beautiful videos about solo gunshipping. They all use no macro stuff whatsoever. Let them inspire you.

Not everyone has the ability to execute macros.
More importantly, in real life, you would never be caught flying in two-seat jet fighter alone because "I'm good at multi-tasking." That's just not how it works.
I think the whole business of macros is against what TG stands for.

Good god, Lyra. That's impressive. It turns the helos into more of a divebomber, I like it.

edit: Lorax, the first link contains two other links.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

I have one macro programmed into my n52 to Q spot, other than that I find no use for macros in this game. I made the macro not to get an edge on anyone, but because I'm lazy . I put in a long enough pause between clicks that it fires at the same speed as a normal Q spot does.

Re: Solo TV gunship help

Not all of us can use a n52 either. I dont have one nor the cash.

Are Macros OK? Yes. Why? EA has co-developed with hardware providers (logitech & ideazon) of keyboard and mouse devices. Theses devices allowed and encourged the use of macros and even had pre programed macros already downloadable from designer websites for EA games. EA allows this and encourges it. If they can't use it, no one should? What about 3000dpi? No one normaly can move a railgun turret that fast, But some of us do that. I think you get my point.

As far as TG rules go, Exploiting is finding flaws within a game/map design. Hacking is injecting, intercepting code and altering the state of a game. I dont see macros falling under either. On some levels, High DPI mouse can be considered a hack since it's injecting higher amount of information then normal like speed hacks used in older games such as quake 2. But that's long shot.

If EA is conflicting themselves and I'm in error, please show me where and I'll address this with the admin panel if this should be allowed or not. Until then, macros are not in the rules.
