Re: Support Kit Guide
I think that the Deployable Shield is extremely overrated.
I have recalled at least 4 times I have plopped down a shield, stood about 4 or 5 meters away from it, and camped with an MG. If you stand away from the shield, rockets should either be blocked or should fall short(due to staying away from the shield), grenadiers will have to step into your field of fire, and the distance helps you against charging assault classes due to the MG's better accuracy at range. However, this is vulnerable to snipers, bad positioning, and flanks. Beware.
So in conclusion, the IDS does have some use, or else I need to play someone really 1337 at rockats and see what happens.

um...I'm guessing you don't know how to use rockets. You can click forward a couple clicks for people like you and will still kill. Better accuracy and range...unless its a vehicle map an assault has a chance in about half a second to always kill a support. I guess it's a good idea, but it really should epically fail.

Re: Support Kit Guide
Yeah, that is true.
I've had the most success with this strategy in choke points.
Against rockets, I stand a few meters away from the shield to give me time to run if I can't immediately kill a rocketeer, and even if I do kill the rocketeer, I need a medic to camp with me for maximum effect.

Here's the thing. Yes, the shield is going to get you killed by a sniper, thrown grenades, and precisely aimed rockets.
However, aren't you going to die to those things if you DIDN'T have the shield?
The shield is UNDERrated. In any other kit it'd be a very useful tool, it's simply a sad fact that support has some of the best utilities of any class that it just finds no place, being edged out by EMP grenades or IDS.
Don't use the shield to camp - use it to attack. If you have initiative, and you drop a shield and act like the shield is not even there, you WILL be successful. It will absorb bullets, it will absorb a rocket or two, and it'll probably even stop a grenade. If you use it with high mobility, you won't have the problems that most others attach to it. Simply use the G key to pick it back up. Dropping it on the ground and lying behind it is not how you do it.
