The Amazing APC!

today i try to explain you the pupose and advantages of the APC.

first of all, many or all of you tg'er probably dont know me. im |TG|Cecil, and im rarely on the TG server due to lag and ping issues. however ive been a tg'er for over 6 months. im very brief here, due to the fact i have mi goreng noodles cooking and i have work to do.

ive noticed that the APC is usually overshadowed, mostly by the Tank and Battle-Walkers.
but i want to basically explain how the APC can be better than both at killing.

PURPOSE:

The apc is by far the most versatile vehicle on the battlefield.

TRANSPORT

The APC's primary use is transport. it has the capacity to hold an entire squad, 6 people. the apc is well protected, by its speed, armour and active defense ability. it can be used to pod away from a battle, or onto the titan. anyone who attempts to land a pod onto the apc is instantly killed. the apc is the ideal vehicle for silo\cp captures, troop transport and titan boarding. in titan matches, friendly apc's can be used as spawnpoints.

GENERAL BATTLE

The apc works best combating infantry. it features 1 360 degree turret, with emp launcher, a long ranged mortar and 4 turrets on each corner. soldiers can man the turrets to combat infantry on all sides, and the driver can emp threats (battlewalkers) to escape. the apc's machine guns cannot damage tanks, other apcs, battlewalkers, gunships and air transports effectively. it can damage Fav's very effectively. the emp can disable all vehicles however, and fires in a long arc. more risky (yet fun) tactics involve emp'ing gunships and podding out of the apc to combat infantry and armour.

ARTILLERY

personally, i think this is the most fun use for an apc. this utilizes the very very long range mortar situated in position 2. it fires 3 grenade like shells (doof doof doof..). this is an instant kill to infantry that happen to be within its range. what im trying to say is, get an apc, drive it up to the middle of suez canal, and you can hit EVERY SILO with the mortar. however, you need to be aimed by a CO (or be the CO). the greatest thing is, people never find out where the apc is. 2 skilled gunsip pilots and an apc can take care of the ground situation of most titan matches. this tactic also works in maps like fall of berlin.


so, im summary, i believe the apc is an underused vehicle that many seem to ignore becaus e of its seemed suckiness. most of you probably already know what i have stated, but heck, here it is anyway!

Ugh, APC mortars D: I'm pretty sure they have a larger splash radius than any other weapon in the game. Not sure about Titan guns, but willing to bet on it.

the APC is the best anti-infantry weapon in the game, a smart driver and mortar murderer can sway the tide of the fight.

I'm guessing that you don't play fall of berlin all that often then cecil

this is what im trying to get out to more people. and i dont play fall of berlin that often. my apc knowledge is mostly in titan matches. im just tired of seeing all those grey apc icons all over the map, and 5 people spamming E on the gunship respawn place.

If I had to choose between a Tiger, a Nekomata, a Riesig, a Bogatyr and a Romanov?
The Romanov, hands down. It is better armored, faster, and deadlier.

1. Armor -- it takes two well-placed shots to kill it whereas the tanks and the walkers need only one well-placed shot.
2. Faster -- faster even than the hover tank Nekomata. Very responsive and maneuverable. Allows a squad of six a fast transport.
3. Deadlier -- the first seat minigun is absurdly accurate and powerful. The second seat -- well, have a look at reaper's screenshot. Nothing matches the sheer deadlines, spread, and splash damage of the anti-infantry cannons.

Out of the heavy vehicles, the APCs are definitely my favourite. I prefer the PAC Romanov over the EU Groundhog because the first seat of the Romanov is much more powerful and accurate.

The APCs are definitely not overlooked Cecil. The only problem with it is that it is much harder to SL a squad in vehicles. I know it seems like it should be the same, and probably even easier, but SLing on an armor map is much harder than on a normal infantry map. Putting an APC into a squad that's not dedicated to the APC gives mixed results. Leading a squad dedicated to the APC gives murderously good results, as reaper and many others will attest.

I consider the drivers machine gun in the PAC APC to be, hands down, the most evil, murderous, wonderful, ghastly, and beautiful device in this entire game.


It's a 2000 round-a-minute sniper rifle.

It delivers flowers right to your poor hapless target's early grave.

I should be so lucky as to have access to one during every round

I remember back a few months ago, PromQueen and I started messing around on the 3rd private server, and were starting to fine tune this idea.

We had the APC setup at Monorail on Belgrade and could take out anyone on Com Tower. The only problem is coordinating when to fire with others so that you don't mass TKs.

The other issues: spread and time. It takes the shots actually quite a bit of time to get the shells to Com Tower from Monorail. And, they also spread out quite a bit upon landing.

Other than that, its a really sweet tactic I'd love to see people use.

That is a decent way to deny enemies Com Tower while pushing for Statue. Typically, one team gets each of them, thus negating bleed, but this could let you get Statue (and a ticket lead, hopefully) until your own team moves up to push on Com.

I need to ban myself and reaper for statpadding.

APC is the most universial weapon. Many would say the walkers are, but they do have their flaws that I dont care for. APCs with one engineer can harrass and engage any enemy armor. The key is that blasted EMP that so few don't even care to fire. EMP, with main MG and the Mortor to boot, This is about the one thing that might need a narf bat whaled on it.

Heh, yeah, I feel the same way after last nights awesome push on Berlin bringing it to Outpost the backway.

I'd really love to see squads start combining armor pieces together more effectively. I know that we were able to decimate the EU armor last night when we paired the EMP with timely walker rushes, and coordinated movement to overlap the shields and utilize auto-repair.

I never bothered trying to fight it. I just tried leading my squad beyond Square with ghost runs.

I never thought about that until an internal scrim was held.

Me and Rob kicked butt that way.

Best moment of the game: watching Axis look up right before the machine fires its weapons.

the APC is only good for

1. killing infantry.
2. running away from vehicles its emped.
3. transporting a squad.
4. boarding titans.
5. mobile respawn points.

Even if that were true, that's still a pretty decent utility list. You forget, of course, to mention EMPing vehicles and having engineers take them out (APC doom > buggy doom!) or other armor pieces, and while you mention "killing infantry" you don't quite take it to its true level of decimating the infantry on the enemy team in infantry-centred maps.

I do have a question regarding the OP, though. Is it true that podding onto an APC kills you instantly? I think I've done this before and not died, but I'm not certain.

You are of course correct Dabrit, you can land on top of an apc and live there is a vid of someone doing it so they can fix the APC, I think it was Lyra.

It may be different for enemy vehicles though. If your on a vehicle that is moveing you can die from the movement, even if it is just a bit of bounceing around like they some times do when they spawn in.
