    Commanding Notes

Bear in mind while reading these were notes made for me by me to run a module. There is hideous grammar and spelling mistakes throughout. There will also be somethings that make no sense which I explained during the module. Feel free to ask questions and disagree with me. Also there is no sizing etc. as I copied and pasted from word.

    Basic TGU Commander Module
    |TG-AIR| daithi1

    TG Rules
    · Commanders have to make commanding their top priorty. Easy, follow it, live by it.
    · Players should follow the chain of command. You are the boss remember that.
    · In games where there are few players (i.e. 8v8) then the commander is able to join in the front-line battle. This is a guideline be very careful of this, TG fills up fast.
    · As commander you have the all-seeing eye. You are in the best position to spot rule breakers on the enemy team and the opposition’s team.
    · Know ALL TG rules before stepping up for command.
    · Don’t be afraid t report an SL not following orders.

    Assets

    Basic Console
    · I will refer to the commander’s screen as the console for the purpose of this module.
    · Spotting and Zooming are the basic assets, they are very usefule and can’t be destroyed.
    · Spotting will spot anything in the general area, you do not have to be right over the player when spotting.
    · Blind spotting can be very useful, but beware many non-TG players who don’t understand the console will take question marks to be players and charge off after nothing. This technique is usefule for assertaining whether a flag is clear when Sat Track is unavialable or you need to save it.
    · You can zoom quickly by right clicking on and double-clicking the zoom button.
    · Try on infantry or mixed maps to keep vehicles spotted.
    · When spotting be careful not to slip and drop precious orbital.
    · Don’t over do the spotting it can get very annoying as a player to here the words over and over. If you spot too much you get blocked from spotting for 32 seconds, this is horrible and your team can suffer.
    · Conquest destroyable assets are UAV, Sat Track, Orbital and EMP. In Titan you lose the ablity to Orbital but gain the ability to move your Titan. Both odes have Supply drops they cannot be destoryed.
    · You can drop assets either by right clicking and selecting the assets or by clicking on the asset button at the bottom.
    · When dropping assets always be at the highest zoom if possible.
    · The squad tab is completely bugged. Do not rely on it for who’s using vehicles, kit assignments, squad size etc. The only way to acetrain these things are to click on the squad or use your number keys.
    · When an SL requests an asset your console locks up until you anwer. You should usually deny asset drops unless they are supply drops requested by ‘trusted’ SLs and you have limited time.

    Sat Track
    · It shows all.
    · The best way to spot breakthroughs.
    · You can’t spot until the red dots have dissapeared.
    · When Sat Traccking if you leave the console you will lose the Sat Track completely and will have to wait for the recharge.

    Orbital/Emp strike

    Vehicles
    · When trying to eliminate vehicles always Emp then Orbital. If both Emp and Orbotal hit directly on a vehicle it would take a lot of suicdal engys to safe it.
    · Orbital on a vehicle can be used to scare, slow down, distract or create an unpassable region. It could also be used if a support has a vehicle well locked down.
    · Emps can be used on its own for the same tactics and also to allow an engineer to get in postion to attack the vehicle.

    Infantry
    · On the TG server Emp and orbitals are not all their hyped up to be against infantry.
    · Usually the squad can stay up and you will gain 2-3 tickets at most.
    · The most useful use is to slow down a cap or stop it completely. Zoom in and drop it directly on the biggest group of people.
    · For a stationary squad in defence etc. drop it on the SL (if known) or the biggest group of people. The person or people at the middle of the orbtial will usually be killed.
    · Other uses of orbital include giving cover for an advancing friendly squad or making and unpassable region for enemy advancing squads.
    · Uses of Emp are on a stationary or advancing squad (anticipate).

    UAV
    · Best usage is in conjunction with Sat Track.
    · Use it to help the most people, usually on largest enemy force, spot others after Sat Track fades.
    · Think outide he box with UAV placement usually the best place is between to flags to cover both.
    · Only guess postion of UAV without Sat Track if you really need too.
    · Don’t just put up a UAV because you can, wait for the best moment i.e. when a squad begin an assault etc.

    Supplies
    · Very important for vehicles.
    · Useful for defence.
    · They are easily destructable so placement is key. Never in enemies sight, they have to be in cover but accesable for vehicles.
    · Pre-empt vehicle movement or request placement form SLs.
    · Never drop it on a friendly flag. The only prerson that wil be on the flag is the enemy.
    · Watch out for dropping it near infantry it will kill sraight away with no revive potential.
    · Can repair your own assets. After it has the asset has been repaired destroy the supply box yourself.

    Titan

    Sat Track/UAV
    · The same in ways.
    · UAV effectiveness is lessened.
    · Sat Track becomes a lot more useful.
    · UAV goes on a flag or choke point, not big enough to cover two flags.
    · Timing of UAV becomes more vital.

    Move Titan
    · Very useful, must be moved if server allows.
    · Very, very slow. Moves slower than a prone soldier.

    Emp
    · Less useful
    · Only needs to be used for a squad having difficulty with armour. Safe it for them.

    Supplies
    · Same as before really.
    · Drops on enemy titan can be very useful.

    Communication
    · You have the use of ‘V’ for talking to individual squad leaders.
    · ‘B’ is for all squad leaders.
    · TS can also be very useful for scrims.
    · Never be afraid or reluctant to use VOIP.
    · Always be confident and don’t ‘ummm’ ever.
    · Beware of over and underuse
    · Should be the way ingame of giving out orders etc.
    · Encourage SLs to talk to you. The more they talk the more you know.
    · Need to be confident, short and concise.
    · Try to get information out easily, don’t tongue-tie yourself.
    · Bear in mind the longer you talk the longer the enemy has to react.

    ‘V’
    · Use this by clicking on the squad in the console or the squad number from your number keys.
    · Use this if you have time and only have intel for one SL.
    · Very useful for giving and getting feedback.

    ‘B’
    · Use this whe you need to give the same give intel or orders to two or more SLs.
    · You can use this if you need to get intel out quickly to one SL.
    · Useful for giving out battle updates i.e. six on harbour, 15-20 on Toll, back flags are clear.
    · You only have the use of ‘B’ pre round.

    TeamSpeak
    · Only for use in scrims.
    · Should be limited to CO, SL and only SM if it is unbelievably urgent.
    · Used for CO to SM communication and SL to SL communication
    · It can be very distracting for SMs. Contact reports etc. will suffer.
    · Use it very spareingly.

    Dangers
    · Don’t get into bad habits.
    · Don’t worry if you make mistakes sometimes, everyone does.

    Tunnel Vision
    · Never stay zoomed for more than ten seconds, there’s always something else todo.
    · Give equal time to all squads if you can don’t obsess over the path of the ‘good’ TG squad

    Undecisiveness
    · Don’t get caught up on thinking
    · Quicker you give orders, quicker things get done, less time for enemy to react.
    · Don’t obsess over tight decision, make one and get on with it. Usually there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer.
    · It’s not alwas your falul when a push or a defence crumbles.
    · If a defence fails and were under bleed, quickly and confidently charge on another.

    Inflexability
    · The battlefield is a very changeable place.
    · Don’t get cought up in one perticular plan, adapt.
    · Changing is something you have to do.
    · Always run possible senarios through you mind.
    · Get squads ready to move, if you think your plan is changing.

    Micro managing
    · This is a big danger.
    · Demorilises SLs, makes them feel substandard.
    · Tell an SL to assualt, give intel on the area but don’t tell him what route to take or what kits to bring.
    · Make suggestion instead of orders i.e. Say ‘Squad 1 you seem to have a lot of snipers perhaps you would do better with a couple more medics.’ Don’t say ‘Squad 1 you have to many sniper they are tactically unsound you have to change to all medic.’

    Basic Strategy

    Objective
    · Always think about the objective.
    · If you make a decision sit back for several seconds and think how will the enemy react, is it really worth it etc.

Concetration of Mass and Economy of Force
    · This is a relatively simple concept.
    · Try to know your SLs.
    · If you have a ‘very good’ TG led squad he/she will usually do better than their pubbie counterparts.

    Counter-attacks
    · The faster the move the better the results usually.
    · This goes back to decisiveness.
    · Be ready.
    · Always look for oppurtunties and plan ahead.

    Infiltraion
    · Always keep SLs appraised of what defence on back flags are like.
    · A simple buggy run can cure your problems
    · Usually it is best no to order these things, but to uggest i.e. Squad 1 a buggy run looks like a good idea, there is a buggy up.

    How To Improve
    · Practice, practice, practice.
    · Practice as SL and SM as well as CO to figure out what everyone wants.
    · Attend the tactics sessions that will folow.
    · Attend advanceded CO

Contents of Tactics and Advanced CO Mudules

    Tactics
    · This will be run in conjunction with Sc1ences tactics.
    · It will hopefully be groups of 3-8 people discussing map tactics with me and sc1ence.
    · It will be specific map tactics.
    · They will run troughout the summer months at least two a month.

    CO Advanced
    · This will be a hard class to pass and to quaify for.
    · You will have to have attended three or more tactics sessions.
    · Have benn regularly CO, SL and SM on TG servers.
    · COing for at least one scrim of any kind.
    · It is possible for exception to be made.
    · The contend will differ slightly from basic.
    · There will be a lot more emphasis on phycology.

    Conclusion
    · Have fun, this is very important.
    · Don’t feel compelled to ever CO after this module, it isn’t for everone.
    · Don’t hog the CO spot.
    · The steps to better Coing: communication, proper asset usage, expierence, ???????, PROFIT.

    Re: Commanding Notes

Well written daithi. Obviously words of experience, especially the things about an Orbital.

Probably the most annoying mistake newbie COs make is drop orbitals to kill a bunch of people. I can't overmphasize this orbitals do not kill infantry. Unless the first hit is RIGHT on the person, on TG, not even in a scrim, the entire squad will live through an OS, 70-90% of the time.

I like your ideas about micromanaging, it's something I'll try to apply to SLing. Also the ideas about "Best TG SL, ignore everything else."

In all, a very straightforward writeup. Most of it is straight application and no fluffy theory. This ought to be a pre-requisite for COing on TG.

    Very good write-up!

I would have to disagree with you on the orbitals though...they are my TG-9th stoppers

"You only have the use of ‘B’ pre round."

    is this true?

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving on.-Ulysses S. Grant

Well you could press V but it would do nothing since you can't actually select a squad as far as I am aware.

If there is demand I suppose I could right those notes in real English.

    Very well done.

How do we sign up for the commander classes? I would love to participate.

I don't know about stopping the 9th, but it does seem to me that the orbital is a lot more effective since 1.5. Still I agree Daithi1. It is very rare to get many kills with it. once and a while I will get lucky and get a bunch of people but more often than not only one kill or less per. Just not worth it when I can save it for a tank, APC, or walker.

I ran them about a month ago there doesn't seem to be much demand at present though... I'd be happy to rerun them if there is though.

Kills isn't really the problem if i'm bothered I could easily get maybe 6-7 kills but they won't die on the TG server, well possibly 2-3 (in general).
