Re: Mirror asking for some Tips...

mirror, as already suggested, when on TS, request to be invited into squads where you see some established players you recognize. You'll be surprised by how quickly you'll be sent an invite to the squad most times. I used to think, "those guys are all to good to want me in their squad", but this is hardly the case. I have learned more about SL'ing from some of the "big" names around here in the last month or so than in ALL my previous 2142 time by squadding up with these folks.

I still tend to shy towards being a SM more than a SL myself, just due to lack of confidence. But over the last week, I've been forced into a couple of SL positions, and actually had a lot of fun, and think I did okay, which has kind of put the SL bug in me. I want to do it a little more. I was in one situation where a guy created a squad and five of us joined quickly. The SL immediately left and rejoined, making me the SL. In typical panic fashion, I left and rejoined, making another guy SL. He left and rejoined and before I knew it, I was SL again. I thought, "this is assanine", so I just took the reins and ran with it, and I didn't do near as horribly as I thought I would. And I think most of the squad had fun too. The big points to remember for me are; 1) Use VOIP! A lot!! 2) Assign orders for attacking, defending, moving, etc.. 3) Be clear in your instructions and don't waiver. And if a SM is not following orders and off prancing around, let them know they need to join up and follow orders, or be removed from the squad. 3) Make it fun! Don't be too serious about it. Take the rules of the server seriously, do your best to help your team win the game, but have fun and let your squadmates have fun.

Re: Mirror asking for some Tips...

BGMcLarge, I have been playing tactical FPS since the later days of Rainbow 6:Rogue Spear. At first it was almost exclusively LANs at a friends house with 6 at best in game. Then a year later I was online with the likes of 106AirCav from TWL ladders. This was my golden age of T-FPS gaming. {106} grew very quiet after we stopped competeing in ladders, and Raven Shield ahd gotten stale with me. So I moved onto GRAW. Know I know that alot of original GR players didnt like this game, but I started playing this online with a community much like this one called beerdrinkingassassins(BDA). Very good group of guys that had split after some very bad things went down and are now called elitebda(EBDA).

I say all of this to give you an idea of my back ground in T-FPS, and yet, when I came to these great group of gamers here it threw me there was no entrance exam. No trial period with the tags, no nothing...just put it on when you read the primer and gentlemans/ladies agreement and understand the SOPs. I was stunned alil as well and wanted to feel deserving of wearing them. So, I feel you.

My best suggestion is, SL when the server is really full and try and run with a few TG guys and get feedback after the round. This has served me fairly well so far. I still dont SL, unless forced to by a player that quits, on full servers. But I hope to soon and am applying for basic SL classes.
