Destorying your vehicles?!

Yes, title says it all. This is mostly for titan but I found myself over teh past 2 years doing this once in awhile on conquest maps. Vehicles are tough cookies to crack in the right hands. It's worse when they steal them from you and you have no reaction time, your team is dead and you lost your last flag.

Sometimes it might be justifiable to destory you own vehicles that are not occupied and sitting idle. Of course not UCB vehicles, but APCs on missle silos are best for this, So the enemy doesn't run off podding your titan to death.

Of course you should exhaust every chance to put someone into that APC and use it for yourself. But sometimes you alone in a tank and have no one there to take it. Better to destroy it now?

Gunship at Reactor Core? Can't get to the flag? Take a Pilum shot if you see no friendlies in the area. No gunship is better then the enemy having one. Make sure to check that no one is sneaking for it first!

think about it. discuss.

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

I have had this problem on lower populated servers, and defending a silo with 1 or 2 people means you leave yourself open to attacks with your unused Armor. If an APC is of no use to my team to pod to ememy titan, I will try and bring its health down enough so any unlucky chap who decides to steal it, I can blow them up without a fight. Remember APCs respawn really quickly, so blowing it up means you could be doing this a lot! And although Walkers do take a longer time to respawn, I'm more likely to use this to destroy any tanks/APC/UAVs..

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

I can't stand people who jump out of the walker and get it stolen! The unspoken rule for vehicle experts is to ensure it will be destroyed, either by the enemy or yourself. This is why I destroy most of the vehicles I encounter. Whatever you don't use, the enemy can take advantage of and I try to deny any advantages to my enemies.

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

Whenever flying the gunship, I always keep an eye for APCs, they're mobile spawn points, so if there's one out there randomly, its a good indication there could also be infantry in the area.

My favorite tactic lately is stealing the PAC buggy away on Camp G when they hit the EMP mines and repairing it up and driving back and forth in toll, sometimes with a gunner. Few COs have actually spent their EMP/OSes on me instead of the walker!

Don't forget to include the Rorsch in this discussion.

All Rorsch cannons must die.

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

I agree that there are many instances where destroying your own vehicle is good strategy. There may be a time where your whole squad heads to a far away cap point together in an APC, but once you've capped it, you want to head out on foot to a nearby, heavily defended enemy cap point where the APC will most likely just get the whole squad blown up by an engineer. It would be a real shame to have a sneaky enemy soldier steal your APC behind you, and launch a bunch of mortars at your squad as they cross the ground between cap points, killing everyone.

PM -- it depends on the situation. If you're simply passing by a friendly silo and you see an APC sitting there and no one is defending, blow it up.
If you're arriving to an empty silo to defend it (and if by chance you're alone and you know no one is coming), get the APC down to 50% health. In case friendlies come, they can repair it to 100. In case an enemy comes, you can shoot him down before he does anything with the APC.

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

It tends to be a binary situation when I see my teammates.

Teammate A is a Raging Rambo Machine and destroys absolutely anny unmanned vehicle he comes across, including my ride away from the flag.

Teammate B doesn't do anything, and the enemy kills him in one shot when it steals that perfectly good tank.

If I don't plan on using a vehicle at a flag, I diminish its health. Enough so that if an enemy hops in, I can finish off the vehicle in one shot, quickly. Same for railguns and other fixtures; cute bait to use, deadly trap when used.

Your right, its does depend on the situation. I think its mainly if I'm planning on staying at the silo to defend for a while. To be honest, if I make a passing visit, I don't waste my time blowing things up, which is something I will now consider after this thread..

Re: Destorying your vehicles?!

I saw too many guy jump out of the walker on camp G just to see a TG member steal it and kill 10 guy before he go down and in the worse case leave with it and keep it out of infantry reach.

Commander should make a priority to desztroy their own stolen apc/walker on infantry map to insure they respawn as fast as possible. I remmeber one time when the ennemy commander was killing our apc but not the one we stole from them... Pretty pointless to kill a vehicule that will respawn on the ennemy side when you could destroy one that will and up on your side.

People really need to make sure the vehicule is down before running away I my self stole some vehicule by running toward it with my repair toll out and manage to arrive in time to save it and run with it. If your and engi and your bail out of your apc even if it's on fire shoot your sefl to make sure no one get the last minute repair needed to keep it alive.
