The herzog
So lately I've been using the herzog to a lot of success. I regret at times that I don't have rockets but it makes hitting crucial because there are no rockets to compensate for bad aim hence making you more accurate over time and then within 20m you turn into a killing machine.
Before the order was gun then pistol then defib
Now its gun herzog pistol defib you can pump out several more kills
I think some of you guys should think about using it. It makes you much more mobile instead of just chilling back being bored which I have found happens way too much in TG.
Also, it does kill in one shot to the upper chest and shoots pretty quickly.

Re: The herzog
I've always been an advocate for the Herzog, especially on maps where you know you'll be in more close quarter combat than distanced combat. The herzog rocks!

Re: The herzog
i can confirm that. not by using the herzog.. but be getting killed by it. last night and this day.. i was killed by bomber more times than i even could count. i was about giving a bounty on him just to make sure his death and stays death. a revived bomber with this tool to bring death is no fun.
cheers

Re: The herzog
I rarely run assault nowadays, but when I do, I pack the Herzog because I'm used to the shotgun style of killing. I'd even go so far as to disagree that it should be a backup -- sometimes when I know I'm going 1v1 with an assault, I'll switch to a Herzog simply because I am more used to that type of shooting.

I haven't actually seen a whole lot of TGers beside you and him use it.

Re: The herzog
To tell you the truth, I haven't used the herzog much. I usually default on rockets and the defib. But as I have been finding out with the support kit (ganz and shotty) you relaly should switch the kit around for the occasion. I'm going to start giving it a try.

Re: The herzog
The herzog is situational, you can't rely on it much at all for anything but close range. When you do become comfortable with it, you'll find that you'll start defaulting to it as your primary weapon in certain situations. A decent side effect of packing the herzog is that it forces you to look at longer distance engagements in a different light. Where you once had rockets to clear a rock outcrop or a low wall, now you'll need to toss a grenade and/or use your rifle which results in an increase in accuracy for both.

Re: The herzog
I agree with lorax, you should try new stuff all the time, that's what makes us better, and you'll realize the herzog is only used for very close quarters probably 1-3 m.
Now when I don't pack it, especially on more competitive servers with very aggressive squads, I feel empty because you get revived so much you need as much firepower as possible.
Of course, rockets are always nice when defending or facing chokes/height advantages.

Re: The herzog
I am a fan of the herzog, but it is situational. Rockets usually end up in my kit, but its fun to run around with a shotty when people don't really expect it...

Re: The herzog
Rockets are usually the better choice because, well, in most situations, you're not going to run into the enemy at anything except longer ranges (since.. you know.. you have to get CLOSE to a guy to be in CLOSE RANGE).
But if you don't want to be a rocket-spamming nublet, take the shotty
The Herzog is nice if you really know how and where you're going to be fighting. Not taking rockets might kill a little potential for you, but hey, it's not like I get rockets when I'm playing Support either.

Re: The herzog
Squad make-up is key here, if you run four Assaults, at least two should have rockets for cover fire. This allows you to close the gap and make the combat close range. Close within 20m and the rockets are useless, set your buttons to quickly switch from main weapon to herzog and you are twice as deadly. It is like having an extra clip in your gun.

Re: The herzog
I'm beginning to use the herzog to compensate for the lack of ammo one finds in the Baur. Like Fubar said, the herzog is that extra clip in your gun in cqc, and this is essential with the baur at close range. With 20 bullets per clip, that's decent in long and medium range engagements, but with CQC, you may take one person down, but that's usually 3 more staring at you with the Voss at the ready. The shotgun really evens out the odds.

I've been running a Krylov/Voss with the Herzog, and I find it that I run Herzog as main, and I use the AR for backup. It isn't situational for me because I am used to creating situations with the Clark -- getting for cover at long range, and moving in with the cover toward the target.
It feels very strange to switch between the Herzog and AR. I perfer to run Herzog first and shoot for the head, and AR as a backup in hot action and spray into the body.
