Grenades: How to use grenades to their utmost potential

Grenades are useful tools for clearing out pools of enemies and also taking out enemies behind cover, however, I rarely see people using the grenade that effectively. Everybody knows that place on Gibraltar which is in the middle toll station with what looks like a bunker. If you do not have rockets you can use a grenade to clear out enemies on top and you can do it without throwing your grenade right up into the air.

Controlling power of throw: To neutralize enemies behind this wall (and plenty of other places) you have to use the right mouse button instead, the longer you hold down the right mouse button, the greater the power of the through. The power of which the grenade has should be indicated on the bottom right corner HUD. At near halfway, release the grenade and watch it go just over the wall and neutralize all enemies on the other side. Controlling the power of a throw will allow you to neutralize enemies in the same situation, however you may need to incorporate a jump in order for it to go over the cover or wall.

Jumping: Jumping can help you increase the distance and height of your grenade, use it when you want it to go a little farther than usual with you grenade. Also include a simultaneous jump when performing power throws over walls or cover, because if you don't you find yourself killed by your own grenade.

Reflecting your throw: In some cases the enemy will be at such an angle or at elevation that by simply throwing your grenade a little higher won't do anything. You need to use objects in this case to reflect your grenade into the enemies lap. An example of this is when you are in a titan corridor, an enemy is positioned close to the door, by moving in front of him and throwing the grenade at him, he'll usually escape before your grenade explodes and kill you too. So step as far to the left of the corridor entrance, the toss the grenade at the wall, it should reflect toward the enemy and kill him. When doing this you have to make sure the grenade hits the right angle, otherwise it'll bounce off the wall to you again.

It would be a lot better if players started using their grenades more effectively like this, then they can stay alive more and neutralize enemies behind cover which they think they are protected behind. These grenade skills can be very helpful in breaching enemy areas.

Another thing I want to point out is that sometimes getting the right angle is tricky. Oftentimes the direction you think it will go is simply not the direction the grenade wants to go. The solution is easy; Think like the grenade. Also, a good tip is if you need to throw the grenade around the corner, get near the corner and left click so you pull the pin. As you do this, walk around the corner. With a little practice, you can time it so you throw the grenade JUST as you go around the corner, so you are exposed for as little time as possible.

It's been mentioned elsewhere, but might as well include it here:

A quick click of the right button will drop the grenade at your feet. This works well when you are above someone and you want to drop a 'nade on their head. This works horribly when you're on solid ground.

I was bored, so I decided to do this, at least on aussie servers I don't see this. I always kill enemies behind that middle wall by chucking a frag when I'm not recon (chucking rdx).

Sometimes this works well if you manage to outflank a squad. You can run behind them and drop a nade and just keep running. It will clear them quicker than any knife or AR! Being unnoticed is key though for this to work.

I'm thinking that you shouldn't do this in hotly contested areas. If you continue to jump and throw like this alot in a firefight, you may be accused of bunny hopping.

Its a habit of mine jumping while throwing grenades... its gives me a good angle to reach farther distances without having my grenade explode midair. Luckily I haven't been accused of bunnyhopping, and hopefully I wouldn't be. =D

Works well if you're being chased and turn a corner. You either get them or they think twice about turning the corner...

However, dropping a nade at your feet around your squad leads to hilarious, yet embarrassing results.

Throwing a grenade, watching it bounce off of a corner or some other obstruction and having it return to you or your team happened too often for me.

Sometimes you don't even need to have a proper grenade to take out a squad. Smoke, mine bait, emp, whatever you have. Throw it through a doorway and just mow'em down as they run out.

I've had this happen to me often until I got used to the delay between the left click and actual grenade throw. Often, while under fire, I would throw a grenade but by the time it would leave my hand my aim was somewhere else than intended.

My solution was to switch to almost exclusively using the right click: as long as you hold down the right mouse button you will not throw the armed grenade. This allows me to know exactly when the grenade leaves my hand and gives me time to aim the throw if needed. A side effect is that I can arm the grenade well out of sight and then expose myself just to aim and throw. I do not have to worry about timing at all!

Good point....I never thought of using it that way. It does however mean that if you get rushed you will have to throw the 'nade and then switch weapon which is a small delay leaving you exposed.

I can see where it would be useful, and times where this method may cause your death. It's just up to people to find the sweet spot of when to use and when to stick with good old left click.
