Re: Tips on how to use the Saaw
Tips on how to use the Saaw:
1) Equip the Saaw
2) Find or create a dead infantryman (this is where friendly squadmates/commanders come in handy!)
3) Look at his backpack
4) Press G
Seriously though, thanks for the write-up.
The times I've used the SAAW, I always thought I was using it wrong [which end do I shoot from?!!1?!].. or that if I was using it right it made negligible difference.
When would you equip a SAAW over a pilum?
If there's a gunship, there are tanks/walkers.. and personally I think tanks/walkers are a much greater threat.
<tangent>
I haven't been bothered very much by gunships.. from what I wager they are off in their own corner of the sky dueling eachother. When they are done dueling eachother, one group waits for it to respawn. The other group heads back to the refuel station, refuels, heads back into the arena, searches for targets, gets a few shots off (SOMETIMES they call something, sometimes they dont), AA Walkers/Rorsch/Buildings get a few shots off it. Rinse wash and repeat.
During the period they get a few shots off, they might kill an entire reckless squad (how often does this happen?).. or they might TV missile a walker with an AA gunner (how often does this happen?).
If the vehicle happens to die, there is a time frame in which it is missing from combat (until it respawns.. meanwhile there's +1 infantryman). In Verdun, is this enough to create an opening to a flag? If it is, do squads take advantage of it (they don't know if the gunship killed the walker at church)?
So in that case, aren't gunships best when supporting a squad? Then why don't gunships support very much (it could just be me not noticing them, but I am very attentive to the minimap. I doubt I'm missing it). If they don't support very much, they aren't effective. If they aren't effective, why bring a SAAW?
(note: this is me as a ground person. I have very little experience with gunships)

I guess I'm begging the question..
why would an SL with limited SMs replace a pilum with a saaw, when pilums
threaten a lot more targets (a person equipping a pilum is sure to use it that life.. and for consequential lives to come. Armor are a bigger consideration than gunships in flag-offense and flag-defense)
get a lot more shots off (how often do SAAW users run out of ammo? Compare this to how often Pilum users run out of ammo. Relates to the above, but why get a primary weapon that you're only going to use a few times?)
protects the squad (I will admit, once in a bluemoon a gunship will hover and try to machinegun a squad. But in this situation, doesn't a pilum work just as well?)
and destroys/repels armor (Gunships don't really deter a squad from taking flags. Armor that is properly defended can stop an entire team from pushing forward)
Note: I do feel that SAAWs have a special place in Shuhia
