Five words: non-coordinated use of armored assets. This isn't always a full-squad issue, though it often should be. A good example is Fall of Berlin. If you can get the walker to head straight up the road and take the attention off the APC--plus put down some covering fire for infantry--it's a lot easier for the APC to be the effective infantry death machine it's built to be. Also along those lines, if your squad is responsible for a piece of armor (or multiple pieces of armor), you must be very situationally aware when it comes to friendlies. Shelling a flag one friendly squad is trying to capture against multiple squads of opponents is not a good idea. If you're very good, shelling around the flag might be possible, but if you're at all in doubt as to your aim (which I most certainly am, and I'm pretty sure of my aim in most situations), don't do it.

Also, if you're in a piece of armor that isn't attempting to deal with a piece of enemy armor to take the heat off the rest of your team and you're off in the toolies somewhere, for heaven's sake, pull back and help out the rest of your team.

Other than that, I think all my other pet peeves have been covered already.

Medical and supply hubs. Is it too much to ask for supplies or healing? Using voip and commo rose these days brings no results. When playing these roles, I drop hubs everywhere and to everyone, I try not to have people have to ask (at least in my squad). If your squad is firing rockets visit everyone with supplies. If an engineer, support, or recon is dinged pullout the med hub. Make a pile of hubs for faster healing and resupply.

Just to add to this as some people may not know...when in a squad, press and hold "T" (default key) and in the top left you'll see all the members of your squad and the current levels of ammo (if you're support) or health (if you're medic). You can then search out the people in need or tell them on voip if they are a little too far away or in a hot zone! Arrange to meet them to top them up. Increases VOIP use and helps keep the comms up when in quiet periods.

I'm pretty sure you still see their health even if you're support, unfortunately.

Defo people that throw nades while everything is clear apart from friendlies, resulting in one big teamkill fest, which isn't cool when the nader ain't an assault, as his last act was taking out all the medics in the vicinity... Apart from that, I hate people who cross the road before looking left and right first and getting instagibbed by your FAV and punish you for the act. Oh... and Commanders dropping supply crates on squishy people, had this when I was just about to knife somone, that really ruins your day.

Isn't that a little hypocritical? You complain about people not looking both ways when you are driving by, but you don't look up while attempting to knife someone?! hehe

I know. But dodging Supply Crates wasn't in my Situational Awareness Training :[ while every kid learned to watch left and right before you cross the road, right?

    When you're commanding:

Requests for support (EMP, Orbital, etc.). But not just any requests. I'm annoyed when people request for something when it's only 25% done recharging.
Please, use the meters in your 'T' rose and hold your requests until the bar's almost full (about 70-90%, because if it's full, the commander might immediately use it). Hearing "orbital strike, HERE!" brings up the commander's attention to the request; distracting the commander from spotting, Sat-Tracking, etc. In addition, the commander can't do squat about it if his asset isn't ready.

Just as a reminder guys -- this thread is meant to explain squad-level mistakes, not person-level mistakes. So having someone not give you supplies when you call for them is, sadly, not in the scope of this thread.
Having another squad follow you like sheep, or continually rush on the last flag -- is.

    Just thought I'd clarify. I don't want this to become a bitch-whine-moan fest. Let's keep it tactically-focused.

Re: Most Frustrating "Friendly Squad" actions?

Suez Canal not 45 minutes ago.......

I had kind of resigned myself that the engineering kit for me is needed on this map, as it has saved more lives when I used it than any other kit there.

An enemy tank came while I was FAR southeast of the dry lake. I drilled two rockets in to that tank, saving the squad leader and five others( five of my teammates and on other guy). The three vehicles we were using were all intact, thanks to me, and they left me high and dry....Not once, but countless times during the match. I asked them why they kept doing that, and I got kicked from the server(not a TG server).

But the reason why we were so far in that area, is because squad leader kept having us spawn away from the action or any bases to take...That is, until I figured out he was using the sniper kit without any thought of the other members. I left in disgust eventually after trying again and have the same results. This post is relevant to poor squad leadership and bad use of teamwork.

Re: Most Frustrating "Friendly Squad" actions?

Thank you for mentioning "not a TG server" I missed that the first time I read through your post and was was wondering who'd do that :3

One of my BF2142 pet peeves is when my team has poor situational awareness in regards to cloaking...

On Berlin, as PAC, if you see the glimmer of a cloaker running around near Crossroads, for the love of god do NOT fire the APC mortor at him. Please. The number one reason I fail to break through to Roadblock as PAC on Berlin is because I get TKed by our APC.

On almost any other map, if you are defending a flag, don't cloak. Let's weigh the pros and cons of this one:

    Pros:
    - I IZ HIDING FROM DE ENEMEEZ!

    Cons:
    - The rest of your squad thinks a cloaked SL is getting past about to squad bomb on the flag, and will most likely TK you, causing a defender to pull off of defense duty to revive your sorry ass for being a moron.

Often times, if a SM TKs a recon in my squad, and I'm the only medic around, I'll request him change kits, and not revive him (assuming the loss of one ticket isn't going to be hugely detrimental to the team of course). Reason being that if they're the type of recon who's going to cloak for the sake of cloaking, they probably are packing a sniper rifle, and have that lone wolf mentality that's going to get them killed in some stupid place like the monorail at statue at Belgrade where we can't revive them anyways.

That reminds me of another pet peeve. Snipers not doing their job. Reconnaissance is anything helpful to a team but lone wolfing.

Re: Most Frustrating "Friendly Squad" actions?

I'm in Belgrade, and I'm holding a squad by their balls in one of the choke points between Comm Tower and Ruins. I'm also holding a Ganz HMG in my hands, and my "teammates" can clearly see my line of fire.

So, when the PAC (I was EU) squad pops out and tries to breach the blown-out wall section, I start laying down the hurt.

    But!

Another whole squad next to me decides to run into my line of fire and I'm forced to stop laying down suppressive fire. The other EU squad could have flanked the PAC squad or started throwing grenades and rockets, as I have a box of ammo resting within 5 m of my position.

Observe your friends line of fire! Do not cross it!

Squads that push... and push... and push... the mindless push of the lemmings, without ever stopping to think - "maybe, just MAYBE we'd be better off defending for 2 minutes before charging off the cliff again..."

Look at this from the other end, especially during the initial rush from EU Base to Belgrade. I've lost count how many times I've been run over by an FAV or APC while trying to get to Monorail on EU. Whatever happened to pedestrians having the right of way?

Actually, a roadkill teamkill is almost guaranteed to happen in the first few minutes as EU on Belgrade.
