Amazing post. These are all the same things I learned from my few weeks here, sans the bit about knowing your role. I've been letting SLs know that I didn't have the unlock they needed, but it never occurred to me the significance of it.

that's actually a great point beyond just talking to Squad Leaders, which you touched on a couple of times below. I'm cursed that I can't use VoIP the whole time, but if one can I think it's crucial that they talk to people, especially when they're on the server for the first time and don't know what the hell is going on.

Practice swapping kits, this is a great way to become proficient with other weapons that you may not have yet. Also, very important in the field for health and ammo.
Also great advice, especially when you get those occasions where your team got whiped and you're not carrying a defib - someone else is almost guaranteed to have it! (Also, to my amusement, for ages my 'best weapon' was the Ganz, which I still haven't unlocked >.> )

I will usually ask why you are not with us, always gives you a chance to realize you are not where you should be. Also, you may have seen something that I missed and I want to know about it.
In the specific case I mentioned, again I didn't have VoIP working at the time so I couldn't easily explain myself. However that may also be down to different SL styles too. Either way, again it's good motivation to talk with your squad, and your SL, frequently.

    Always call out enemy movement.
Argh! Such a simple point and I forgot it >.< Yes, yes and yes again. Always q-spot and tell your squad what's coming. If you don't, your eyes are going to waste.

As for Teamspeak, I'll be on there at some point, hopefully soon, but that'll be limited by the same problems that prevent me being on VoIP all the time. I'll do my best though

    Cheers!

Re: Transferring In - Tips for people new to the TG Server

Volron, a nice wealth of tips here. I've played on the TG server for about a year now and still some of these tips are quite valid. Just to add a few of my own to the thread.
    *************
    Pay attention:

One of the hardest things to do in Battlefield is being aware of the situation around you. Is that an enemy tank or friendly? Make sure you know before you pull the trigger (or click the mouse). Team damage is sometimes hard to avoid, but everyone is trying to do their jobs and it may get crowded. If you're not sure, don't shoot. Better to kill an enemy than a friend.

More so, being aware in a heavy battle situation (say orbital strike+enemy Walker+swath of enemy soldiers+buggy coming at you+SL orders to move to a position+teammate dying in front of you+ect...) is difficult. Best to find some cover and take stock of the situation before running into certain death and doing no one any good. Of course, circumstances change in a second in Battlefield but caution is a soldiers' best friend.

    Watch that ammo gauge:

Often, I get caught in the game with my gun having three shots left and I have three soldiers to take out. I'm not Rambo, so unfortunately I die. If I had a full ammo clip this end might have been avoided. Watch the gauge. It's easy to forget how much ammo you have and run up to enemy soldier and fire, only to put a few shots in him rather than 40.

    Almost had him:

When going for the kill, sometimes you encounter the enemy soldier not paying attention and with his back turned. That's when it takes over...the urge to knife him and collect a prize.

But be careful. Knifing someone isn't the most efficient way to kill a person and often if you miss they pump you full of lead. It's hard to refuse this urge, but only do it when you think you can. In games where tickets are precious and you could be killing three guys with the time it takes you to kill this one, knifing isn't really a priority.

    Why am I still alive?:

The question that boggles our minds when, with 1 second left before we respawn on our desired location, we are revived by a medic and thrown back into the fray of battle. Never assume you're dead until those numbers disappear off your screen. A medic can revive you many times and if you're not ready to jump back into battle it'll be wasted time for that medic.

Never give up unless you're certain you're dead.

    Since no one's looking:

Sometimes in the game, you are left on an island. A late spawn or perhaps a stroke of luck, you seem to have the place to yourself and the advantage is seemingly yours. Not so. Snipers may be lurking nearby and while you decide to place that infantry scanner on the flag, just to make sure no one is around, you get killed out of nowhere.

Before you go and give up your position, be certain you're alone or are fast enough to place that scanner down and bolt.

    Victory is mine!:

When the game seems wrapped up and the enemy is down to their last tickets, don't go AWOL. Your SL and CO orders are still valid up to the last second of that game and when things seem to be in your favor and victory is your teams, it's hard not to go running off to hunt down that last enemy soldier and get the ever so satisfying last kill.

You SL or CO may want you to hold your ground until the games conclusion, because, unlike some servers, it ain't over till it's over on a TG server. An enemy team can come back from 60 tickets down if your team begins to celebrate victory to soon. It is imperative that you follow SL and CO orders till the end of the game to ensure that victory. Not doing so could end up in an embarrassing loss.

Well, that's all I have for now. Feel free to add or subtract to it as you wish Volron (or anyone else for that matter).

    Peace and Prosperity.

Thanks for the guide, man. Although I'm not new to 2142 I'm new to this Board. I'm reading everywhere and this was the jackpot for me. I want to be a good contribution to TG.

Always nice to have some new perspective, I almost forgot what my TG discovery was like, and how confusing it was at times knowing I was probably annoying everyone. Great post.

I've seen this on several servers, and again when I used to play ETQW. I just wanted to add that, if you're a medic and you're going to revive people, pay attention to what's going on around them. If there are five bodies laying on the ground, and a swarm of enemies coming, don't revive five people right into a storm of enemy gunfire, just to have them (and you) get killed again. That wastes your time and energy, as well as six kill tickets that could have been avoided (or at least postponed) by those five players just respawning.

While I agree with the majority of your post I just wanted to point out that a revived person does not lose a ticket. You only lose the ticked when your "critically wounded" count down reaches zero (or you are gibbed by thing like RDX, tank shells, falling supply crates, etc).

You are correct though, it is always important to know what is going on around you before you go for the revive.

Good point, Kyle...I hadn't realized that. Thanks for the correct!
