Getting killed by friendly motion mines
It happens rarely, but I can get killed by friendly mines. Sometimes on exitting a vehicle, and other times just blatantly while in a vehicle.
Eroak said he'd post something about this (but he never did, that jerk!), so I figured I'd ask if any of ya'll knew what the deal was. Is this a simple glitch, or is there logic behind it?Fight!

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
I would think that an enemy close to you triggered it, but I think it IS a bug.

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
Lyra said something about this in his Oracle thread... the mines detect a moving vehicle gone neutral, and are attracted to it for a brief moment. Unfortunately, often that is enough to kill you.

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
Yeah I get random team kills pop up from motion mines and it's more so annoying when you jump out of the walker for repairs, and dye, leaving it available for anyone!

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
I've never paid enough attention to the details, (see Lyra) but as someone who's played Engineer and used lots of motion mines in the last 2+ years I just assume I'll get 1-3 friendly kills per round. I've always thought the mines are just buggy.

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
Neutral vehicles will activate motion mines. If you have mines by a vehicle spawn point, you'll see them raise up off the ground when the vehicle spawns in (sometimes they just hover there, other times they drop back down). If you're in a vehicle, say an FAV, and you drive through friendly mines and hop out while near the mines (and the FAV still moving), they will activate and track the empty, now neutral vehicle. If the mines are close enough when you hop out, they will detonate, killing you and anyone else in close proximity.

Re: Getting killed by friendly motion mines
What Lorax said, with the added bonus that I figured this because I like to leave the mines under a vehicle (harder to spot) that is highly likely to be taken by the enemy but when a friendly does jump in...kaboom.

That's why you have to be careful. If they are already hovering you'll usually just push them around but if they float up into the vehicle then they'll explode.
