Re: Recon Kit Guide
LMAO! The sniper kit in BF2 was really under powered in my opinion. I did the dame thing, but when the .50 Cal couldn't stop a jeep or a person with one shot it was definetly time to move on....lol. Gaurdian doesn't shoot straight, most people run into his bullets...........voice of experience.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Because it will no longer let me edit my original post in this forum. I'd like to make it clear that Prophaniti knows what he is talking about. I posted my stats to show that I was qualified to be authoring a Sniper guide. It occurred to me that my posting Prophaniti's stats makes it look like I'm trying to devalue his work. This is false. I agree with almost everything Prophaniti said, and the only changed I'd make and will make in my continuation of his guide..and useful additions that build on the solid foundation he left. The reason why I chose to post his stats alone with Elite_Master was to show the crowd that while Proph has about 1/4 of the time invested...his data is on par or superior to Elite_Master. I thought this was amusing and worth posting, in retrospect a bad idea.
My sincerest apologies to Proph.
That was going to be the big secret in my guideGaurdian doesn't shoot straight, most people run into his bullets...........voice of experience.
Don't shoot straight and people will run into your bullets.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
I'll chime in with some tips and such if I can think of a few non-obvious ones not stated. When I first started playing, I played almost solely as sniper. Haven't played as much lately due to its restricted role in an actual squad, and been focusing on medal requirements because ranking up now is a bitch.
I'm in the low 3000s with all the snipers still I think, nothing to brag about really, but haven't used them in about 3 months or so really. Used to be just below 2000 with the Zeller.
One thing to take away from the sniper role is accurracy. My overall acurracy is about 30% right now, and if you look at the majority (probably over 90%) of players, their accurracy is low to mid 20s. You learn to shoot conservatively and know where to hit to get a kill depending on their health and such.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Sniper sniper sniper..
Don't forget your a explosives expert. I find that the recon can single handedly defend a flag from a full squad and not even be at that flag.
APM's make a good warning system. You get a message that someone was killed. Now that RDX you place all over the flag in hidding spots, You break out your happy RDX trigger! Wait a few seconds for his revive buddies to get on the flag. Blow it. Often you'll clear the flag and you might have 1 or 2 left over that anyone can easly pick off in thier confusion!
As EU defence, I always try and play recon. It's a nice defence benifit. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Do all the guns have bullet drop, not just the snipers?
Of course the regular guns probably cannot see far enough for bullet drop to have an effect.
How far do the bullets travel?
Real bullets at an angle of elevation can travel about six miles. I do not think any of our maps are that big, but i have not been up North.
Do the bullets lose kill hit points at extended range?
Are the bullets affected by wind drift? Is there wind?
I have seen weather in Belgrade but had not looked to see if it is coming straght down or at some angle that would indicate wind.
Was wondering if I could have my HMG set up at the southern end of Toll Station on Camp G and put a hurt on an FAV heading my way even though I cannot see him except on the Mini Map. Ammo is cheap in this game.
I have not intentionally played the sniper kit. To test bullet drop I would set up at known distances and fire at something like a billboard with a buddy standing next to it calling out the impact. I do know the tank will fire a heck of lot further than I can see the hit spot.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Not sure if there is any "wind," persay, but if you drop RDX off a building, it will float sideways a bit from where you originally dropped it.
As for affecting bullets, fairly sure it doesn't.
I think there is a minimum range damage and then bullets do a bit less damage past that range.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Yes, but guns have too much bullet deviation to hit anything at a distance where it really makes a difference.
Not sure exactly. However, I have killed targets between 350m-400m with the Zeller. I've also killed targets well into the fog, the point is...if you think you can hit him, the bullet will reach them.
Yes, for all weapons but the sniper rifle class and the Pilum.
Not that I can tell.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
awesome. looking forward to it. It's a pretty fun class to play, but you have to be a damn good one to actually contribute something to your team. Which I most definitely am not.Working on my sniper guide...be ready for it everyone

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Half the battle for being a good team sniper is taking on a different role in many situations. You can be useful passively by spotting stuff out, but only goes so far and spamming spot loses its usefulness quickly.
As for shooting, patience is key.

Re: Recon Kit Guide
Hi everyone. Though I'm new here, and only played BF2142 for about a month (99% of that time as Recon) I'd thought I'd share a few of my favorite tactics.
My number one favorite, though I don't get to use it all that often, is to shoot motion mines with the Zeller, WHILE THEY ARE BEING PLANTED. This usually takes out the engineer who is laying them down, since he is in the blast radius of his own motion mines. The same goes for an enemy recon who is relaxing near his own APMs and RDX's.
After unlocking the Zeller, I went back to the default sniper rifles, but realized that I had a very important job in taking out enemy explosives, so went back to the Zeller. That, and the fact that a couple of pistol shots after a Zeller body shot does very nicely in CQC.
Recon does very well as a squad leader, in my opinion. What I've done in the past has been to issue orders (attack, defend, etc.) then lay down support fire as a sniper. So, if I see three enemies incoming to a position, or defending a position, I lay down three body shots (on running targets), and my squad easily mops them up. If I see an enemy engineer with a Pilum setting up a shot, or an enemy recon with RDX running toward's my team's armor, simply pick them off and save the armor, and help my squad in their defense/offense. Plus, since I am able to scope and see threats from far off, they are alerted in the netbat system, and are almost never caught unaware. Also, I see other players getting hassled by a sentry gun, having to pop out of cover a few times to take it out, getting hurt in the process. Whether I'm close or long range, one shot with my Zeller or regular sniper rifle takes it out for them. This tactic works great in Titan defense/offense as well. Sometimes I'll pop in a hallway, hit the sentry but not bother with the enemy, clearing the way for my guys to take out the engineer who's trying to plant another sentry. I don't get any points for this, but it helps my team.
Since I like to be versatile, typical equipment consists of Zeller/RDX/Camo, or Zeller/RDX/APM.
This may sound a little crazy, but I'm now trying to get really good with the Zeller at close range firefights, which is challenging to say the least. One shot with the Zeller, pop behind a corner, bring out the handgun, and pop them at point blank, or one of my team mates finishes them off. Although, I've noticed that even though the enemy is dead center in the middle of my screen, my Zeller doesn't always register a hit if it's not scoped. Is this an artificial miss modifier that 2142 adds to sniper rifles if they're not scoped?
There are a few more things I'm trying to figure out as well, such as accuracy modifiers to sniper rifles, even when scoped. Are the sniper rifles more accurate when crouched on one knee, prone, or standing? My observation is that standing is the least accurate, but I can't figure between crouched and prone.
