Value of the kit switch
Well I feel that its gotten to that time again to remind everyone of a very important part of BF2142, the kit switch. By default the button is G and this wonderful ability allows soldiers to change kits with out respawning by taking the kit of a down or dead soldier, be they friendly or enemy. A soldier's versatility on the filed can double to triple due to some fancy kit switching. The possibilities are endless, a support can lay down some anti vehicle and a sniper even gains the power of the revive with a simple kit switch. As a great example today, Lyramion was in my squad and spawned in a engineer to deal with walkers on Shingle. Midway through the round, after the walkers had been dealt with, Lyra found a medic kit and proceeded to carry on as a medic. The truly remarkable thing was that Lyra maintained the engy kit all while playing medic, that is to say that he switched kits often enough that the engy kit never disappeared. While Lyra is a special case this is just one example of the many possibilities that kit switching brings to life. So please never say no to being a flexible soldier, you might have that support kit but you can still revive your squadleader if there is a medic kit around!

Isn't it also true that you keep the NetBat benefits of your original kit? So if you're SLing with an Otus and spawn in recon, and no longer need the recon kit, you can switch to a medic kit when someone around you dies and still maintain the awesome recon netbat while having a defib also.

Re: Value of the kit switch
Kit switch is one of the best things there is in this game. Why you need 2 supports to EMP block when you can lay down second supply box? Most likely provided by your enemy?
Didn't bring RDX when running into consoles? Don't worry if there are APMs some1 also has RDX so you just need to find him and voila!
Motion mines all around, leave the gunner into walker and go check body of that fallen engineer, motion mines + motion mine bait are best engineer combo so you just might be lucky!
On pubby servers I have earned my best kills due the kit change. With one run I've taken down walker with RDX, 7 other guys with various weapons and revived and supplied all nearby friendlies.
Excellent thread, all you need is just one click away!

One thing I often do is if you run out of ammo and are still engaged in a fire fight, pick up a downed kit and cross your fingers it isn't on single shot and/or the clip isn't empty.

Re: Value of the kit switch
I will often times grab a downed Support or Engy kit long enough to nab the radar and throw it up somewhere. Then I usually go back and grab my Assault kit. Extra intel is always nice and it doesn't keep me from being useful as a medic.
Also, if the tickets are tight and you're not playing medic, don't be afraid to nab your downed medic's kit and revive him. That one ticket might be the one that wins it for your team.

Re: Value of the kit switch
Anyone know why it seems like you pick up a new kit automatically sometimes when you die? The other day I died, got revived, and somehow had an engineer kit (I switched back when I realized it was the wrong kit). Then I ran into a building, died, and somehow got the same engineer kit.... Is it maybe that I just push the wrong button or something?

Re: Value of the kit switch
Another thing to note about the kit-switch....
If an enemy sniper has placed APMs and you kill him as a support, drop YOUR ammo crate and then pick up his kit, after a period of time you will resuply the APMs to the sniper kit. Throw them down somewhere and the original APMs left by the sniper will disappear!!
This technique works for all kits. Like if you kill a support that has dropped his IDS, take his kit, resupply, and drop the resupplied IDS. His old IDS now disappears taking intel from his team and adding to yours. Engy mines can be "cleared" in this fashion also. Just make sure you don't get killed while resupplying!

This is simply because the game assigns you the closest kit to your body when revived (even though it can be a bit random at times), sometimes it also gives you a completely new kit thereby creating an extra kit on the ground. This can be handy sometimes, if you intended to switch kits (let's say from sniper to medic) and preselected your kit so next time you spawn you get your medic kit but instead you get revived its possible that you will be revived with the medic kit that you wanted anyways, leaving the sniper kit on the ground.

Re: Value of the kit switch
Switching your kit is very important, but I hate it when I get stuck with a newbie's kit. I don't have NetBat or any of the other goodies I'm used to.
I would like to see a system where the supply crate allows for kit switching, too.

Re: Value of the kit switch
As far as I'm aware, it is possible to switch your kit back during revives, so if you've swapped kit for a medic and you want your kit back, you can press G at the right time when getting the revive and you'll be back with your own kit.

That is only possible if your original kit is still sitting on the ground. If you're next to another downed friendly and he gets revived first with your kit, you're going to pick up his original kit. You'll have to swap out with one from another dead body.
