Armor Coordination Success Stories?
Too often, you'll see a piece of armor all by itself, or with a repair monkey beside it. This isn't that bad on its own, but wouldn't there be interesting possibilities if you had two pieces of armor side by side?
Let's hear some success stories and unusual pairings. What is the general all purpose best combination of armor you can think of? Should armor work together? How close should they be? Does working together really have to mean staying close to each other?
Is there benefit to running a squad full of infantry for one armor piece?
Just questions to get your head thinking. My favourite match-up is the APC and the tank on Belgrade. APC EMPs the walker, tank shoots its kneecaps, and a few seconds later, bye-bye walker. This is what Zho feels like while using C4 and USAS-12: link.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
I've always been a fan of Walker/Tank combos. The walker is extremely agile, with a mobile AA gun on it's head. Plus it's rockets and main guns are usable at the same ranges that the tank's main cannon is. Using these two together, however, means that it's in their best interest to stick together. Whereas two tanks could work more independently just as effectively, if not more effectively than together.
Regardless of that, if I had to choose, I'd go walker and tank sticking together, fighting from long range. Put a Support kit in the walker, and an Engineer kit in the Tank. Put sensors up on the walker. Due to the walker's bigger profile, and increased threat to gunships. It's most likely going to be a higher priority than than the tank, so having the engineer in the tank allows for repairs without either vehicle being abandoned.
The APC+Tank combo works great, but I can't see much benefit to it, outside of Belgrade.
I remember back before I joined TG. I'd hop around on Tampa Titan servers with the other [T-BAGZ] guys. Although the clan is primarily a gunship-based clan, we were working on our ground game. Using the walker and tank from silo 5, we were shelling Silo3 and prevented them from being willing to step away from the silo since it appeared to be on the verge of being taken. Granted, we don't play Tampa Titan, but a similar tactic can be used on the larger armor maps we play.

Walker/Gunship
So.... Its obvious why this would be a good combo.. Walker has Air Support for any Ground armor... Even a few shots from a Gunship will make the difference with the Walker staying alive or not.. Plus the Gunship is the fastest Vehicle so it can make even a last second help call easy for come too.
Now for the Gunship.. The Walker and it's top AA gun makes Gunship Dogfights A LOT Easier.. One Emp and the Enemy Gunship is Toast.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
APC + Walker is a deadly combo, as every well-defended Fall of Berlin map can attest. APC takes care of pesky infantry and EMPlocks the opposing armor, and the walker finishes them off.
Two tanks working together on larger open maps isn't too bad of an idea, but still vulnerable to gunships and buggy doom.
Two walkers in one place can make a flag a living hell for infantry or armor coming in.
A walker, tank and APC moving around together might just be nigh-on unstoppable.

I'd rather be paired up with any other piece of armor, than be alone.. Boosts your attack/defense/survivability/fire power and is just that much harder for the enemy. Armor should always team up where possible. You can deal with a variety of things that you may shy away from on your own.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
Playing on Suez I instructed my squad to gather the armor and meet at Oil Station. When we all regrouped, we had 3 tanks and a walker. The walker had an engy in the top gun and I had one in mine. As scary as it is, I called for all 4 engies and 2 support. We stayed in semi tight formations, far enough apart to not be taken out by an orbital and close enough to provide repairs and concentrated fire.
If I could remember the date, I would pull the br. We never lost the flag and assisted with the other close flags. My gunner would jump out and man the AA at Oil when the gunships came thru. Three tanks concentrating fire on one or two targets made us extremely deadly.
I tend to try and run armor squads with at least two peices and engies in both so they can repair each other.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
I think it would be cool to have an APC behind a tank, full of engineers and one or two support, and the tank can just hammer away while the APC drops some shells into an enemy position.
I think when doing these pairs though, you need two very good drivers. The enemy commander will get the idea of what is going on and will likely drop and EMP and orbital on the vehicles.
And just a quick question, does armor's shields work against orbital strikes? I know that they work against all other fire, but is an orbital too much of a damage dealer?

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
One of the most successful armor columns I ran on Shuhia consisted of four tanks and two APCs. While this only worked because our gunships dominated the air, the APCs could immobilize two armored targets and keep infantry off the tanks while the four tanks could effectively kill two targets per volley.
I know that getting all that armor in one squad is a bit...difficult, but the ability of APCs to freeze armor for even a minute is invaluable.
edit: We steamrolled over everything, essentially. The entire ground force was mopped up by that column and their airtrans ability was shut down by our gunships.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
Actually I think my biggest armor co-ordination success was against you Zho. Friendly tank kept your and your tank buddy's attention at long range while I snuck up (almost all the way) in the walker using the trees for cover on Verdun. By the time you guys noticed me you were already slightly hurt by the friendly tank and in a bad position to defend yourselves against the walker. Personally I don't think armor has to be close at all to support each other, especially on open maps (and maps with multiple pieces of armor usually are) the tank and apc excell at ranged combat and I find the walker is fast enough to close with enemy armor/targets.
Walker/Walker -- moving mayhem. This combo is extremely hard to go against as both are very agile and if they have gunners they have the right weapons to take out pretty much anything that gets in their way. At the same time this is also probably fairly uncommon since few maps allow for it to happen (suez and verdun come to mind, depending on which flags you have access to) and chances are your squad isn't going to have both pieces.
Walker/Tank -- personal favorite, usage outlined in first paragraph.j
Walker/APC -- probably the most common and is also very effective. Like the walker/tank combo, the walker closes the distance while the APC rains death from afar. The bonus to the walker/APC combo is that the APC doesn't need a direct line of sight and can stay out of the way. The walker's swiveling ability allows it to quickly and accurately correct the APC's mortar while engaging targets. Takes an experienced APC gunner though.
Walker/Gunship -- outlined in another post quite well.
Ground Armor/Transport --Roflcoptors are... well unpredictable. This combo has the potential to easily cap flags since the ground unit can probably clear out enemy armor by itself (unless the friendly ground unit is an APC) while the transport mows down enemy infantry trying to engage the ground unit, but I doubt this would be effective against an experienced squad.
Tank/tank -- as far as engaging enemy armor goes, this is probably your best bet. So long as you co-ordinate and fire before your target knows where you are, you can pretty much take any armor down in one volley, but even if both tanks have gunners you're still a little weak against enemy infantry.
Tank/APC -- odd pairing, but common. Personally I feel both are long range vehicles so this is pretty much a support unit for friendly infantry. APC freezes armor, tank blows it up -- discussed in many above posts, APC mows down infantry as well. The tank isn't such a good candidate for the long range support like the walker is, as the pilot can't spot as easily due to less agility, though if the tank has a gunner it could work...
Tank/gunship -- another odd pairing as the tank pretty much can't help a gunship unless the enemy gunship pilot is unexperienced and in which case its probable that the gunship doesn't need help anyway. Could be useful for taking down enemy walkers if the tank grabs the walkers attention and makes him pop shields before a TV missile comes in, but again this combo would be lacking when it comes to dealing with enemy infantry.
APC/APC -- two words: mobile artilery. One apc is enough to put considerable pressure on a defending squad, two would be like dropping a millstone on an egg. This pairing would be great for supporting friendly squads since between the two you can have a continuous (nearly at least) volley of mortar shells and emps.
APC/Gunship -- APC immobilizes armor and neutralizes shields, TV missile, boom.
Gunship/Gunship = air superiority. Period. The only place this happens ( so far as I know) is on Suez and if your two pilots are experienced, the one EU pilot is gonna have a rough go. Also, one gunship can draw the attention of the enemy walker/AA while the other sneaks in for the kill.
Gunship/Transport -- theres not usually a roflcopter squad so this is probably really uncommon, but this pairing would make a pretty good match. Gunship deals with enemy gunship and ground armor while the transport rains death on enemy infantry. Like most of the other pairings this would still only be a support unit for other squads though.
I don't think I've missed any pairings but its possible, anyways you're all probably tired of my ranting
Good Luck. You're gonna need it ^_^

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
I remember way back then in Competition play we had to play Minsk with armor.
We would rotate the 2 APC EMPs on the enemy walker while the tank brought it down

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
Two tanks are incredibly strong when put together. Provided both drivers are aware of their surroundings, they can really push on enemy positions while repairing each other.
Another benefit is sharing the shields: one tank slightly to the side and ahead will shield to block enemy ordinance, while the other waits for the shield to run out and can take the forward position. If positioned well, the rear tank can still engage some targets without hitting the forward shield.

"apc+walker", or "gunship+tank"
Oddly enough, I can imagine a cool "two buggies+transport" squad.

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
APC+tank is a great combo. I don't have any stories but if you like grouped armour combat similar to what's being said here, play PR, one of the best modern armour experiences in my opinion, if you're on a good server that doesn't have lone tankers.
In fact in PR taking 1 tank out into the battlefield is not very much appreciated, especially on TG!|TG-69th|Berlancic2

Re: Armor Coordination Success Stories?
What about on Tampa? An entire squad of engies in TANKS! I did that today on Timeless Tampa with DrFlop, and we pwnt the enemy to kingdom come. Of course, I was the SL, so it could have been my awesome jokes and my "Death is last on my things-to-do list, so come over here and repair my damned tank" act.
Of course, I was alongside half my team in PAC armor. There was one Walker that I was counting his Anti Air kills. He pwnt too.
That, plus the entire squad having VOIP and a great commander, despite the fact he didn't speak english. We worked together seamlessly, and ALMOST capped them out on Assault Lines.
