I swore by the baur for much of my early time for BF2142, my feelings on it is that it's a solid gun overall with advantages and drawbacks like any other. Excellent in 1vs1 engagements, especially at medium to long range, it has a steeper learning curve to be effective but helps train your accuracy in all rifles. You need to fire it on single shot or use extremely short bursts to both retain accuracy and conserve ammo. The difference in feel for it is more drastic then the differences between any other guns. I generally only use it if I pick it up off a dead body, and keep it on single shot for 90% of the time.

For the record, the default guns offer more flexibility so that is what I use, the Krylov is king in my books.

If the Krylov is King, the Baur is God. It is great at every range, awesome for headshots, awesome for short range too and is godly in good hands.

Its main advantage? The shorter reload time for attachments (rockets) than other guns.

The main reason I switched from the Baur was the lack of ammo, I kept finding myself in a situation where I would flank three guys, be able to drop two then run out of ammo and either have to run; letting them revive and nullify what I just did, or turn around and shoot me while I was either reloading or pulling out my pistol.

Another situation that I found the Baur lacking in was when two people come around a corner are surprised and do the little dance of death around each other, I found 50% of the time I'd run out of ammo before I could drop them, at which point it's game over for me unless I get lucky with a pistol.

Now that I have switched to default I can consistently drop 3 people in a row without reloading, and I rarely loose a a surprise CQC engagement.

Feelings: I like it, and don't see point mocking it that much, it lacks couple things that Voss doesn't but I have seen many really good players using it and killing more than I've ever seen done with a Voss.

How: In med range: Go to aim mode and try to get first shot so, that second lands into the head
In short range: Aiming will slow you down while at close range, so just aim for the torso and you should get your target with half clip, if you have more than one target to kill shoot closest one first and then aim for the torso on the others.
And far range: I prefer just getting close and personal, Voss wrecks me and cover is lethal unless you switch to rockets. Brust is hard as it tends to miss with the last shot and you don't have forever to kill your enemy either!

Why:
A)Always run out of ammo with Voss
B)Many other players lack Baur skill so its good to have something superior when compared
C)Much better when you have change to surprise your enemy than Voss (IMO)
D)Helps me counter enemy support player much better than with any other weapon
E)I usually do much much better with Voss after I've done couple rounds with Baur

I have had several affairs with the Baur over my BF career. Recently I finally broke it off with all the other guns and made a commitment. We've been happy together since.

I used to be fairly high ranked with the Baur in my early days.
Then I smartened up, and dropped it in favour of the Voss. Larger clip, larger dmg/second. You can say that it's sexy as all hell, but the numbers ain't there. That's all that counts.

I´m with Zohar. I´m ok with a Baur but every time I kill 2 people with it and a 3rd shows up.... I knew my Krylov and Voss woulda had that guy, too.

When ever I grab someones pack that has it, I treat it like a shot gun, good for close range and never use the zoom. However I used in in the my early days and then started wondering why I could not beat someone skilled with a voss. But it is a cool looking gun

I enjoy playing with the Baur every now and then as you have to play differently than with the voss/krylov. You have to use more distance between you and your target. Although it's use on the TG server can be limited, since a close-quarter gun seems to be more effective overall there.

But still it's a fun weapon if used in the right situation, so everyone should check it out, if only for some variation to your regular gaming.

I also used the Baur in my early days of playing before coming to TG, but I always used it as a close-range weapon. When I saw an enemy I would rarely scope in, instead I'd try and close the distance and then spray them in the face with it. In fact, my K/D with the Baur is still higher than the other rifles even though I haven't used it in well over a year. As for my feelings on the Voss, you can probably ascertain them from these statistics:

Voss L-AR: 45 kills, 3699 deaths.

Can't hit anything with it unless they are 2-3 feet away. The scope bounces around too much and it feels like firing a garden hose at the enemy. It sprays everywhere but doesn't hit anything.

Krylov and Scar are my Assault Rifles of choice.

I find the Voss to be a pea shooter, something in my head stops me from using it effectively. The Baur is the original and best to me, stopping power at most ranges, great scope, makes a lovely sound and has a short clip, which forces you to be conservative with your ammo (I very much dislike the tendency to reload a clip after firing off 5 rounds or so).

Lately, on Lyra's and many others' advice I started using the Krylov on PAC. I have to say it is a great weapon. Quick bursts at short to medium ranges and that's all you need, the difference to the Baur being that the kick doesn't force you to completely re-aim for the target next to him. However there are problems with it, and I still favour the Baur.

This statistic might not reflect what you think it does.
The Rifle Kill/Death ratio reflects the number of kills you've had with that rifle, and the number of times you've been killed by that rifle. So if you use a rarely-used rifle for a bit of time, your KD will be ridiculous ... just because no one else is using it.
A more helpful statistic would be your kills with the rifle divided by the total number of deaths you accrue while using that rifle. That, sadly, is not what this statistic reflects.

Voss ... sprays everywhere but doesn't hit anything.

A) Not enough people use it

and

B) If I go on preaching too many people will use it and I will pwn less
