Ideas common to most TG Infantry Squads

    Gents,

I've led or been a part of a large number of TG Infantry squads. I've noticed several things that are common across maps and IHSs that repeat themselves in TG infantry squads. I'd like to show you these things, briefly, and I hope that you start doing them too!

    1. All squad members in light armor. Your people run longer, and hence kill better, and stay alive longer. Probably one of the easiest ways to notice a TG squad -- they are faster and more mobile than a pubbie squad.

    2. Most squad members as medics. Medics can heal and revive downed team-mates, in addition to rockets and the highest dmg/second weapons.

    3. At least 1 IDS in the squad. IDSs provide team-level intel, and on tight infantry maps are an absolute staple. It is rare to meet an effective TG squad that is not running an IDS.

    4. All squad members carry the Otus. Even with a medic heavy squad, you will gain benefits from the support. The recon minimap dots and the support diamonds are shared on a squad level, not team level.

    5. The support carries EMP grenades in addition to the IDS. All infantry maps have at least some kind of armor. EMP grenades can keep that armor at bay and away from your squishy medic squad members.

    6. Medics run defibs and rockets. The revive tool is kind of silly to even mention, but there are some misguided souls out there still. The rockets are an extremely effective weapon, and the vast majority of TG squads run them in favour of another unlock.

    7. All squad members are relatively close to each other. Squaddies stick close together to revive, heal, and resupply each other ... in addition to helping each other win the firefight ahead.

    That's all.
These are just ideas that a lot of people consider to be "very smart things to do." No rule is set in stone, but if you feel inexperienced, these are a good starting point to get functional squads.
Also -- full disclosure -- if you run a TG squad without IDS and EMP grenades, Zhohar will eat you, with a little bit of hot sauce on top. If I'm feeling frisky, maybe I'll add a bit of mayo.
But I am definitely going to eat you. Tasty!
    Fight!

Good reminder for all. Only time I ever pack heavy armor is when I expect to be playing engineer the whole round, and moving around using my vehicular armor rather than my feet.

Everything else is just as you say it is, and should apply for the vast majority on both sides.

I had learn how to play with light armor when I started a new soldier and didn't have any of the sprint upgrades. Its all I use now.

Average SL, yes you'll keep up.......

I suggest running in a squad with Crux or Zhohar on an infantry focused map and then you'll see if you can keep up.

The difference heavy armour makes is huge.

To be honest even now-a-days even with Light-Armor its hard to keep up. I can't imagine with Heavy.

About #7, I noticed they had a tendency to stay a little TOO close together. Could bring those 4-man kills down to 2-man kills if they learned to keep a bit more distance.

I made the switch the light armor pretty late compared to most people and I could still keep up as well; That's not the reason to use light armor. After switching I have noticed an increase in my ability to stay alive, and being a flanker, I am much more effective on the field then I was in heavy armor. All that for a minimal trade off in being able to soak up damage.

When you think about it, heavy armor is only a real benefit when you are squaring off 1v1 against another opponent who is firing right back at you, in that situation the heavy armor gives you an edge over light armor; that said, the above situation is the least favorable situation to be in and should be avoided is at all possible. Think of all the situations where you are under 10HP
and still alive, those are the only situations where heavy armor factors in at all.

Not running out of stamina in the middle of the open, being able to quickly respond, being a faster harder target to hit, and quick flanking will save you many more deaths (and earn many more kills) then it will cost you.

Well, I will try out light armor. Sadly, I do come in contact with 1v1 situations quite often. Even if a squad is very close distance-wise, there still is separation, and a lot of times (because of my Heavy Armor) I am not in the front of the pack, but not near the back either. Let's say my squad is at Inner Bridge Lock on 16-man Suez conquest. They go up the stairs, and I am assigned to lay mines. While laying them, I come in contact with at least one assault. Firefight, between 1v1, because the rest of the squad is busy capping some flag (as usual).

Does heavy armor really have that much of a difference between how many shots it takes to take you down?

    - Heavy armor allows for 1 more body shot to be taken in a few situations. That is only upper Torso. Your hips, legs arm and head doesn´t change.

    - Light Armor gives you DOUBLE the distance to run and and DOUBLE the regeneration to your stamina. It´s really nuts.

When your SL moves a distance x to attack a flag in light armor. A SM usually needs to move around 130%~150% of x because you have to catch revives and cover flanks left and right. So the a good SM doesn´t only need to "keep up" with his SL - you have to move even more.

I often had Zohar give an order to move out of a flag we had just taken and sprint to the next one. Then I looked at my stamina and it was aruond 20% only from running around like a burning rat to catch all the revives.

There is never a need for heavy armor, unless you are commanding and want to looks cool...

Those who are unsure should try without it for a while and if you go back to heavy armor, then I hope your not on my team. The advantage you think it gives is in your head, and as Lyra said, very minimal..

Yes.. I have mistakenly went Heavy-Armor, and it was all heck to keep up even with a slow squad. Also with a hit zone, A lot of people have learned to Aim very well. I personaly normally go for the Middle chest to head. Meaning I'll get off a few headshot atleast. So truelly you won't last too long.

Also say even if you are in Suez to put out APMs, I believe its better while setting this up to be able to move faster incase you find yourself into a fight. Being able to take cover faster can change a lot. Also being able to move around faster, like Lyra says with Vives do become critical in speed. Only reason I get half my last second vives is because of being in Light-Armor so.

I usually tel SM's that if they wear heavy armor and slow us down...I will shoot them. All for the greater good. There are many times that I order my squad to move out and even with the light armor I hear the statement "how did you get there already?".

i can only agree that light armour > heavy armour. For me light armour is a given in any squad, though I suppose I should make sure when I SL that I ask for it...just in cases.
