Re: Why the Pilum?

I like the Pilum because it feels accurate. I fire it knowing the shot will go where I want, not just near where I want.

Of course this is the reverse of what actually happens.

Re: Why the Pilum?

I like the guided nature of the missiles for longer shots. I find vehicles often move away from my aim point with the pilum. To reduce the lock on signal you can fire the missile slightly away from your target, and then bring it back on when it is nearer.

Does the Pilum reload any faster?

There was discussion of this, and over abuse of its effectiveness is against TG primer, end of discussion. I was complaining of the same thing too, as it takes off one thing that Mitchell/Sudnik excels over the Pilum. I don't know what is the limit of over abuse but reaper gave good example.
But yeah this isn't my opinion, discussion of it should be at -> admin forum!

Re: Why the Pilum?

The guided rockets are also a bit better IMHO at killing gunships/transports. With the amount those things move about it's very hard to hit them with a Pilum unless they are very close!

Re: Why the Pilum?

Azura's Pilum technique works well enough, but the left slider doesn't seem to work consistently.

The left slider reacts to your (the player's) forward/backward movement by moving up/down respectively. This is normal, and works perfectly.

Turning and sidestepping is where the weird behavior starts:
  • Turning while sidestepping will cause the slider to start tracking your turns.
  • Turning too fast or stopping your sidestepping will cause the slider to jump back to center.
  • Turning also affects the amount the slider can move within the scale, if that makes sense.
  • Sometimes the slider won't move at all, which I think is a combination of 2 and 3, where the slider jumps back to center and doesn't have any room to move.

Turning while moving forward/backward can't be tested because of the slider's normal behavior, as stated above.

Can anyone else weigh in?

Edit: This would be a lot easier to demonstrate with video...

No, the SAAW is what you use for AA. SAAW > Guided missiles. Fire and forget FTW.

If the target is outside effective Pilum range he is outside effective missile range. As said before, to guide the missiles for any length of time you are a static, sitting duck for any one who even glances your way. Not just armor but, ohhh, the ~22 other people on that piece of armor's team who would take great joy in sniping/stabbing/shooting/splattering you w/splash damage long before your missiles will reach target. Can't track when you're dead.

Re: Why the Pilum?

I see your points Greyed, but, if you bring a SAW you are limited to only air vehicles...defaults will track whatever you tell 'em to!

As for the ~22 other people.....well I'm kinda refering more to large maps here, where most of the enmeies are otherwise engaged. It's situational as is everything in this game.

I'd say Camp G, Shingle and Carebear would all be Pilum for me. Tampa, Titan, Shuia and Suez mostly Defaults. Verdun.......depends on what the squad is try to do.

Re: Why the Pilum?

Buggy doom = Pilum
Everything else = Defaults

End of story.

Yeah, you really need to just get out, fire at tank, get back in buggy and flee. No aiming hassle. :s

Some people tend to rush their shots. The pilum needs to be shot calmly and from a still position to be accurate. If you rush a shot you will probably miss, but if you take your time to crouch or prone, line up the shot etc it's very accurate. Of course this isn't always possible but works if you have the time.

Have the time... No make the time. All you have on the Battlefield is time.
