Shotgun Support Unlock Methodology.

Since I've been out of the game for almost 2 years until last week I'm going to review my Shotgun Support(pointman) unlock cycle with you guys to see what you think. I'll include reasoning with all points but will enjoy feedback.

1. On the way to the shotgun because I want to get as much practice in with it as I can right off the bat.
a. IPS Shield
b. Advanced Ammo Hub
c. Dystek Pulse Meter
d. Clark 15B
2. Going to pick up Frag grenades, because even though they are easy field upgrade I would rather have them on hand immediately.
a. FRG-1 Grenade
3. Going to go grab my IDS because everyone knows that it's the staple of pure awesome for Support
a. EMP Grenade
b. Netbat
c. Sentry
d. Ganz
e. IDS
5. I don't want to be typical and I have used this weapon well in the past week or so when I've picked up a shotgun support with the unlock kit off a body(I made a retraining character just to fool with and relearn controls). So I'm grabbing the Clark RDX
a. Clark RDX
6. I plan on fleshing out the player kit all the way up to boots to make myself a stronger squad member
a. Sprint
b. Stam
c. Maxclip
d. Extra Grenade
e. Boots
5. I'll flesh out my squad leading section because by then I'll have relearned the maps enough to properly guide a squad if need be.
a. Beacon
b. Otus
c. Spanky
6. Then flesh out my assault kit for medic with a typical loadout.

My play style is very up front and direct, kick in the door and clear the room esque so I love the shotgun setup.

MY typical kit will be
Clark 15
Clark RDX
IDS

With EMP grenades or Sentry in place of RDX at SL's discretion.

Any thoughts or feedback?

The first thinig you should do is get the global unlocks. What use is your clark when you cannot sprint and recover sprint. You can pretty much go Marauder style for Kits but you cannot get those Sprint upgrades and Boots from them.

Second forget about the Clark RDX. It´s fun but of no use to a Squad. The |TG| brand standart layout for Supports are EMP grenades and should be carried even if not requested. With EMP Grenades you are on teh safe side - without them you might find the squadleader kind of not amused when your whole squad is pinned down by 1 lonewolf walker.

Also dont get spanky - seriously.

Good point. I'm already one unlock below the Clark so I've already hit that spot I might as well get the Clark and then drop all three of the next unlocks into global like you said before hitting up the IDS. With light armor I've been sprinting pretty decently but since it's been a while since I've played perhaps my viewpoint on "decent" is a little askew.

The "Alpha" Sprint distance with the Light Armor is ok. But your recovery will suck - like a fat kid going thru drills his first time. So you will need to stay put for much longer than you should to make the next sprint attempt.

So based on that methodology and my current status with unlocks I'll get the Clark and then hit frag, sprint, and stam all three before going for IDS.

I don't want to be the fat slow kid.... That's just embarrassing.

Also what is the general thought on me leaving all the assault tree till after support IDS, including defib. In my preferred setup I would always be running support of some kind, point manning with shotgun or suppressing with HMG. But on the off chance that I'll need to go medic for a persistent SL should I unlock the defib early or just pick it up as a field unlock like I've been doing?

If you're starting a new character the unlocks will come quickly anyways. IDS you can always get as a field upgrade once you get the Clark. Given what you want, I'd get the following:

Clark
Nades
Sprint
Stamina
Defib
IDS

Past that... well, have fun!

Well the defib is always reachable by Field Unlocks. Go get IDS tree first id say

That's how I feel about it Lyramion. And so many people play assault that if I ever needed to I could just steal a kit form a body. I prefer supply though, shooting people in the face with a shotgun and having and endless supply of grenades just puts a big smile on my face.

I would say that is fine as long as you know the value of the kit switch (shameless plug that everyone should look over)

Considering that you are a low-ranking player and are interested in playing Support, the #1 piece of advice I can give is to pack EMP grenades. It is an extremely important unlock, on par with the Defib and the IDS.

Please Pack EMP Grenades.

I wouldn't bother unlocking the Otus until later, either. While I like it I don't really think it's worth unlocking when it can be had with field unlocks. You never need the Accipiter either and the Squad Leader Spawn Beacon upgrade literally does more harm than good.

QFT. It is such an annoyance running with NS SL's who have this unlocked, where it tells me I can spawn but then takes me back to the spawn screen for another 3 seconds.
