Quick Question and Quick Tip
Does climbing a ladder trigger APMs? Like on the ledges (Or you could call them mini roofs) while climbing up the ladders on Command Center on Cerebere? Does climbing past them trigger them?
My quick tip...when needing to go down ladders FAST, look down to the ground, and press sprint+forward, you'll slide down the ladder instead of climb. Not sure if sprint+down while looking up does the same, perhaps. Just a small tip for those who didn't already know.

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
No, unlicke in BF2 climbing on a ladder wont trigger it. Keep your crouch button pressed and you will never trigger it even when you arrive up top.
APMs can still make sense on ladders. They keep the people coming up slow and crouched so they are an easy target for someone camping up top

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
So how is this thread gonna go? Ask a question then post a little tip?
How does one switch weapons efffectively? Using the mouse scroll wheel, using the numbers, or pressing F really fast?
My tip: If you are a grenade magnet, try and stay closer to your enemies. They will TK themselves more than kill you. Works every time.

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
haha nah this isn't a forum game type post or anything, just that I had a question and a tip that I thought of as well, so decided to post both :P
Lyra: Does pressing crouch make you climb slower? O_o That I didn't think of.
Edit: To your question: I use the numbers, the other two involve scrolling and I have to pay attention to what weapon I'm using. I've memorized the numbers for each kit with my frequent layouts (IE. IDS is 5 with EMP nades, but 6 with Clark-RDX, MM is 5 with MMB, but 6 with PDS. I do get my assault kits mixed sometimes...especially if someone equipped the shotgun and I think its the PK) So its much faster to switch with numbers

I use the swiss cross on my n52 to change weapons, works great.

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
No crouch doesnt make you climb slower. But keeping it pressed down when arriving at top an exiting the ladder will make you crouch teh instant you leave the ladder and keep you safe from the apm

Actually, for me (Idk if anyone else ever does this)... since I only have an [URL="http://images.tigerdirect.com/skuimages/large/I71-1688-main.jpg"]IBM mouse[/URL and regular keyboard, I actually find the numpad as a vital thing for me. I use it with my mouse hand... for instance, I use the + button on the Numpad for zoom map, Enter button for map, * button for Grenades, - Button for Knife, and all the Number buttons as the "switch seat" things instead of the F<number> keys. I love using this.

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
I use an old microsoft strategic commander. I never could seem to get the hang of using a keyboard properly. I have to say that I think MS gave up too soon on that bit of hardware. I believe it's the best one out there by far for fps games.

Numbers most of the time. What throws me off is that DICE decided that the items would not have a static number based on something as obvious as the kit slot or the like. Nope, it has to do with your main weapon.
For example Krylov + Defib + Shotty/Rockets = 3, 6, 5 respectively.
Baur/Voss + Defib + Shotty/Rockets = 3, 5, 6 respectively.
So if you're used to the Voss/Baur as your main weapon and you pick up a Krylov kit you'll be trying to revive your teammates with rockets. How the heck people, like Sidious, who use the Baur EU and the Krylov on PAC end up not being confused every other round is beyond me. Heck, it's bad enough that 1 is knife, 2 is secondary weapon and 3 is primary when I'm used to HL, HL2, CS, CS:S, TF2 style. 1, main weapon, 2 secondary, 3 knife. Every time I switch games (which can be 2-3 times in a given day) I have to spend 5 minutes fighting my reflexes from the previous game.

Oh...I meant while climbing the ladder, not when you get on/off the ladder...like those small roof things in Command Center (Those that you can to from jumping off the top). If you place the APMs next to the ladders, will they trigger when people are in the middle of the ladder climbing?
Penguin you can use the 'N' Key to zoom in the minimap, so you can hit it with your left thumb. I use a standard 3 button mouse too, I just move my left hand around, I don't know if leaving the mouse at all is a good idea or not
'7' is nades, '1' is knife, so you can reach those keys too with your left hand
For switch views, I used middle mouse click to look behind me, and 'Y' to switch to cockpit view

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
I have buttons assigned to all my items. My mouse has the RMB and LMB, scroll wheel (for zoom/scrolling through the list when I need to), scroll wheel click (MB3), and buttons on the left and right. Middle MB and right-side MB are for unlocks, left-side MB is for pistol - when things get hairy. =)

I use the buttons on my Logitech MX1000 to switch weapons:

(Just copy & paste the link, I can't post images yet : |)
I have yet to see a good mouse with as many buttons as the MX1000, I use logigamer for all the key assignments.

Re: Quick Question and Quick Tip
So that leaves your left hand to do WASD, sprint, and crouch. Bringing teamstacking to your right hand? haha
I have grenades and TS on my two thumb buttons for speed and that leaves the rest of my right hand for aiming, while my left hand has gotten really good at doing keyboard gymnastics.
