RocketNoob
Ok, this is to all those talented souls that kill me with perfectly placed rocket blasts.
I apparently don't aim well with rockets and am curious as to why.
When you zoom in which part of the V (I'll call the sight the V) is the point that registers the distance. Is it the bottom, middle, or top.
Also once that distance appears that means it'll airburst at that distance correct?
And finally I know you can adjust distance with the scroll wheel, and when I zoom on lets say a barrier and want to blow things up past it I adjust my distance with a couple clicks. However even though I can see the guy's head over the top of the barrier I either shoot too short or too far...
Tips? Hints? Criticism? All is welcome.

Re: RocketNoob
I seem to have the same bug with rockets. Everytime I range them the first rocket flies off and airbursts right where I told it to. All of the other rockets, however, seem to burst at 30 meters or so. This continues even after I reload, and switch the slot rockets are on my kit. Do you have to re-range each rocket?

Re: RocketNoob
no, you don't. and if you zoom in again, it'll reset the distance. try staying zoomed in the entire time you shoot if you aren't already and watch the distance number to see if it actually changes.
Try testing in an open server with lots of space to confirm whether this is really happening or if it's user error

Re: RocketNoob
Top bar for distance, then roll forward one click to increase that distance by 2 meters to hit something behind a barrier - or - roll back one click to decrease the distance and hit something in front of something else (a lot of people don't do this). Rinse and repeat often. When you get the knack of it, it will only be a matter of time before you're picking out pieces of landscape to get distances on and adjusting the distances on the fly.

Re: RocketNoob
Just keep practicing. I spent the longest time wondering what I was "missing" when it came to rockets as I couldn't hit anything with them either.
The video above certainly helped and, as I mentioned, practice.

Re: RocketNoob
I don't like all these people becoming good with the rockets! Soon you will just have a natural feel and be aiming rockets at people half way across the map, simply while looking at the minimap..

Re: RocketNoob
Eh, I'm not that great with rockets. I know how to use them, but recently I've been favoring the Herzog. Once I get good with it I'll switch back...

Re: RocketNoob
That was an excellent video and some great tips overall from you guys. I think that I'll practice some more with my rocket. My biggest issue that I can see was not using the top level to gauge my distance properly so I was hitting off target.

Re: RocketNoob
For taking people out behind cover, I don't think increasing the explosive distance right away is a good idea. The first rocket usually gets them before they've started moving so I keep the detonation distance the same as the range of the cover, but aim above it. This way the explosion is as close to the target as possible and maximizes damage.
The second one I'll range in by 2 or 4 meters, depending on how quickly they react. On the flip side, when rockets are being fired at me, I much prefer doing whatever it takes to move towards the aggressor as the second rocket is usually ranged at the same distance or further than the first, so often you can avoid absorbing much of the second rocket's damage. Moving away usually gets you killed from walking directly into the explosive radius, and moving laterally can be compensated for without having to change the ranging at all.

Re: RocketNoob
Not to mention it is simple math. If you're increasing elevation, which you should be to both compensate for rocket drop as well as to get over the cover they are behind, then you're also increasing distance. If you don't extend distance before firing you are now exploding before the cover, not behind it.
Personally I made the mistake of hearing/reading them say to increase distance by "two clicks" which is 4m as opposed to 2m which is but a single click. Either that or someone made the mistake of thinking a click, as in kilometer, was referring to meter.
