Static map or rotating map ?

I have always used static maps in all games and rotating maps annoy me when I see them in youtube videos etc

I estimate that most people use rotating maps and have trouble with compass directions. I know the compass is there but telling direction is just quick with a static map as top of the map is always north

    whats your opinion
just post up the word, static or rotating
    ..and maybe a comment
lets see lots of posts to get a pattern

Static...much easier to do compass directions with it.

I've always said I'll ease up on my hours played when I can orient myself without the minimap...I'm dangerously close on some of the maps to doing this.

When I first started playing I used static, but after a reinstall I didn't change it over and have used the rotating map ever since. I've played enough hours to know the directions pretty well without the compass so it doesn't really bother me.

Static = Better for giving directions, as you don't have to look for the minimap in order to tell where is north etc.
Also you see the whole area better as the map moves slower. With static you need some knowledge of the map, as you can easily lost direction in fast combat.

Non-static= Better for fast intel: You instantly see if the enemy is in your side or behind a close wall.

I used non-static for year and I'am now trying static. it can be very confusing but usually it gives me very clear image of what is happening, but I'am still used to the style of non-statc: If something is on up right corner of the minimap I instantly assume it is on my right side, even though the green dot may be facing exactly opposite direction.

And yes static is better for your videos

And those who don't know what this is, in option menu (gameplay) you can switch if your minimap is static (greendot turns but map stays still)) or if its non-static (map moves but the greendot stays still)

I've stuck with the default rotating map, and it's served me well.

Side point: it's not wise to change the type of map you use after using one type for a long time. There is no functional difference between the two, and the only result of the change will be lower situational awareness in the short term.

Default rotating is what I use. Provides faster intel and its what I've been using 70% of the time since I started playing, so its hard to change now.

    Playing BF2142 as:

    -{SXGr}- J0KerRr

    -{SXGr}- x^DeTeR

I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)

Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:

    eXileD// DeTeR

Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game

I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not

I know it seems odd, but using the static map gives me motion sickness... I think it is because the 'world' appears to spin, yet the map is stationary thus throwing me off. Needless to say it is one of those things that you just accept and move on. So yeah I'm 100% in favor of the rotating map.

    Rotating rotating rotating

Much better for OTUS / IDS freaks. So easy to aim at people even when they not yet visible. Compass directions are no problems after so many years of 2142.

    I <3 Rotating

Relative directions makes it so much easier to tell where enemies are relative to you..
That is alot more time-dependent and more-frequently-useful than say, "Approach from the east hill"

It might have to do with my love for rotating-view topdown-perspective shooters.

Rotating all the way. I know the map and can give direction regardless of what the map is telling me. The usefulness of rotating, is seeing where the red is in front of me.. Not having to work out what direction I am before knowing....... I'm dead trying to work it out...

I use rotating but have never tried static. I'm not going to now, I think I would find it weird, and I don't find the directions a problem as I know the maps well enough. If i'm lost I just flick up the full scale map.

    rotating map for me.

Yes, there's a little bit you give up by not having immediate cardinal directions, but I think having instant understanding of where enemies are trumps that. It's basically a choice between directions and location.

Also, with most maps, I've played them a hundred times or more. I generally know the cardinal directions from wherever I'm standing without looking at the minimap.
