    The small white indicator

    In-game tip #85:
If you hit an opponent there will be a small white indicator around your
crosshair to help you. If you never see this, you might want to adjust your
    aim.

What I'm wondering is: Is it there only to show that you've hit someone? Or something else?

(Pardon the graphics. My graphics card blew out and I'm in the process of getting a new one.)

Yes, it also doesn't tell you if what you hit is an enemy, friendly, or neutral (i.e., and empty vehicle). The indicator will appear when you shoot a soldier, gun turret, IDS, Spawn beacon, if a grenade lands somewhere near a supply crate, or even if an old mine goes off and hurts something. (I've been fooled by this before. I was chasing an enemy when I had an option of two corners. I threw a grenade around one, and was pleased to see the white indicator. I ran around only to get shot from behind as I realized I had guessed wrong, and the white indicator was telling me that one lonely motion mine I had thrown several lives before had slammed happily into a walker, which probably got repaired right after.)

Personally, I find the indicator to be more useful for showing you that you're missing (i.e., no indicator means wake up and aim) than for showing hits.

Actually, one thing I've never figured out about the indicator is why it's sometimes a full circle, and sometimes only a semi-circle. I know that using a sniper rifle, APM, and other things always give a full circle, ARs seem to always be semi circles, and sidearms are semi circles when fired from the hip, full when you're using the sights. As far as I know, there's no real difference in what it's trying to tell you, but I could be wrong. Anybody else know anything about it?

Huh. I thought it only appears when you hit a hostile object.

As for the semi-circle/full-circle, I have no idea. That's why I'm asking to see if anyone knows something we don't....

Yeah you only get a circle for hitting enemy things. NEVER for friendly things. You only get a hit indicator for "Neutral" things on Titan map APCs when the enemy owns an empty APC as a Spawnpoint.

You also sometimes get indicators for remote damage like motion mines and APMs

Titans are very iffy with this. There are a couple places where you can shoot the titan, like the vents above the reactor room door and the indicator will light up but do no damage.

    Huh. I stand corrected. Thanks.

About the only time I see a half circle is with grenades. I always assumed it meant it was a lousy throw with minimal damage.

    Dear Oracle,

Why do you get semi-circle hit indicators sometimes then when you successfully hit an enemy.

I'm not the oracle but it has to do with the crosshair of the weapon you're currently holding. It's just a cosmetic thing.

the little white indicator when is full is a direct hit full damage, semi-circle is a partical hit causing less damage hope this helps

i don't quite think your rigth, i think it's only half circle from the hips to avoid blocking your view too much

Nope; try shooting the Bianchi LGM (EU).

Full circle = Not zoomed in
    Half-circle = Zoomed in

Oh exalted and wise oracle....you are the only one that can explain this phenomenon! Mr. Lyra, where are you?
