The correct mindset is a learning one. No-one started this (or any other) game with a 3-4 K/D ratio in every match they played. A certain amount we learn ourselves just by playing the game without even thinking (knowledge of the maps knowledge of equipment the best way of shooting) and this is how you become a decent player. Sooner or later though, you'll hit a wall, and the only way to get even better is to actively go and learn, and then implement the things you've learned, because being rocketed out of the same area over and over again is not learning.
The 2 places to learn is from yourself and from others. Learning from yourself is all about realising what you're doing wrong and why it's wrong, and then trying to correct it, then looking at what works, why it works, and how you can apply this success to other situations.
Learning from others is just about being receptive, look at what your SL does, why they do it, and why it works. This is why it's great to have an SL who constantly verbalises their thoughts and the reasons behind their actions. This is why I thoroughly enjoy being in Zhohar's squad, not only does he do a great job of leading, he does a great job of teaching, and I've learnt so much from him and others. But again, not only learn from their successes, learn from their failures, and try to see why it didn't work.
Edit: HA! So I click on the article and the first subheading is "Learning", LoL!
Edit 2: I just realised that this post is a less eloquently worded version of
this. I have no originality
