Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Only times I use a knife:
- No loaded weapons and there's no time to reload.
- Very unaware, easy-to-reach sniper. (Don't forget to CROUCH to avoid APMs!)
- If you're in one of those enclosed towers and you can hear ONE enemy climbing up the ladder. The knife is actually effective here (zOMG it's useful?!) because the enemy is on a set path (the ladder) and cannot retaliate until they get off of it. In addition, bullets may lag and not kill the enemy before he has a chance to retaliate. Furthermore, if you peek out over the edge to shoot, you (sometimes) might lag and he may jump off and run away. Hide by the edge of the ladder and let her rip.
Meh. I'd take a pea-shooter over the knife.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Whatever weapon gets the kill is fine in my book. If someone can get that same kill with the pistol would we be worried? What if it was a defib kill?, surely that kill would have been easier with the rifle? What about the other enemies? Surely a 'nade would have been better?
We all know running around with your knife out is gonna get you killed sooner than if you had been toting your rifle, but it's a game, get your jollies where you can. It's you that has to watch the 15 second timer run out if you're not careful!

This is the right attitude to getting knifed. If you allowed someone to get in striking distance of a knife while you have a rifle and a squad nearby (hopefully), you need to be more aware of what's going on around you. If you get knifed by some crazy guy running into a crowd of you and slashing frantically, but then he dies and you get revived almost immediately, then don't worry, it was them that did something silly, not you.
For anyone that things they're getting knifed too often:

If you then kneel with a big tree on your left, you cut your exposure to 90 degrees front/right. If you then realize that flag to your right is held by a friendly squad, you reduce your exposure even more - you can now expect to not be shot by someone you don't see... or... at least they'll shoot you from within your field of view. At this point, you can concentrate on being more observant of the horizon/bushes.
Just by positioning yourself so you won't be shot in the back/sides, you'll improve your K/D a LOT. You may not have quite as many kills as first since you're not charging in to a firefight - but you'll also die a lot less. The more you play with that "limit my exposure" mindset, the better you get at it and can keep yourself safe even while moving around quite a bit.
"Situational Awareness" FTW.

The only time I get knifed is when I am out of bullets after spraying 4 guys. Unfortunately, I saw one of the TG guys trying to knife me (after I killed 4 guys) and he succeeded while being surrended by my squad members... concurrently he got owned.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Just to be a bit blunt, it is neither good nor bad. It has its place and time on the battlefield like every other weapon. Use it in the wrong place, you use your life. Use it in the correct place, you save ammo and and gain a bit of pride.

Haha, yeah getting knifed is always a good kick start to some adrenaline. It usually makes me take my game up a notch or two. So if you are winning, and I am on the enemy team and you perhaps want a better fight, knife me and see what happens
But by no means do I take it personally, TG member or not.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I got knifed last night by Logicalharm, we had had a short firefight and I ducked behind a tree to reload. For some reason I had a hunch he was going to rush me so about halfway through the reload I stood up and started backing away from the tree, and there he was sprinting toward me with his knife. I almost had him too, but he closed the last lengths real quick and got me before I could get a killing bullet in (was firing from the hip as I backpeddled).

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
if you are sure you are going to kill the foe with the knife the sure why not. the knife is jus like any other weapon. although i have to say i love to knife people in whichever situation. as long as you get the kill, the weapon u use isnt rly important

The thing is with the knife you can never be sure. I've lost count of how many times I got the kill after hearing the "klink" of a knife slicing harmlessly through my body.

even if you arent sure, ive now practiced it enough that i get it 80% right. so its up to the players' skill in knifing really and not a rule that says you cant do it because i can not.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I love using the knife, it's fun to know you were able sneak up on some unsuspecting person and then kill them. But i have also found that it does hold some viable tactical use. If I am trying to go somewhere without drawing too much attention to myself, I might knife more people than normal because its the quietest way to kill someone.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
It also gives a bunch of bright blue circles with Xs in them for any medics on the team, which is usually ~85%
