Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Any weapon can be utilized in the required situation. I honestly think that most people don't know when that situation is and usually make a bad move pulling out the knife in the first place and that's why it ends up developing a bad rep. Also to add and I'm sure many of members here could agree, the best defense against being knifed is to keep moving. When I first played this game awhile back I think I moved half as much as I was supposed to... now there's usually not a moment that I don't have some type of movement.

Especially when you shoot the guy, know he has one hit left and they seem to get you from longer then arms length.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
The problem most people have is if they use their AR and pistol, and think they HAVE to knife (they really should try to reload unless they know they'd be shot without a doubt doing it), they just pull their knife and charge straight at the enemies. This is a very bad idea. What should happen is you (the knifer) should sprint at about a 45 degree angle towards them until either they are out of ammo, or you are at the point in the sprint where you can turn 135 (or so) degrees and be practically next to them. Most people just sprint directly towards people, hoping they can get close enough to attack. ARs have a very good chance of killing you if they have a straight shot at you, but targets traveling at an angle are much harder to track.
Now once you get close to the target (within about 5 feet) comes the attack. There are several ways you can do this. Generally on my first strike I will try to sprint-knife the person. This is done by sprinting directly at them and when they are just outside of range quickly stop sprinting-click-continue sprinting. THis move allows the knife to attack while you are traveling forward as fast as possible.
If your first pass misses, or you get a rubber knife, turn immediately back in their direction.[/i] This has to be done quickly, or your turn will be too wide and they'll have a decent shot at you. In fact, you should always turn around for another attack even before you know you've killed someone with the knife.
Basically you should just continue running around in tight circles and dodging around the guy, attacking when you see an opening, and sprinting out of his lane of fire whenever possible. Proning (not bunnyflopping) occasionally will help throw off his aim, but immediately press control after a prone, as their is a delay to press Z or space again. Remember, never try to occupy the same point in space for any longer than you need to.

Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Knife, it's a fun thing to use but not the best. If you're sitting there sniping, you should expect to be knifed. When I snipe, I prefer to be knifed rather than shot or blown to bits because I feel stupid for not being able to take those long distance infantry out in time to save myself (plus I'll have a couple APM's hidden around somewhere in case they decide to run up to me with a knife, giving me the "GTFO" signal and change spots). Plus being knifed also brings up rivalry so you feel better when you knife the guy who knifed you.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I normally shoot someone rather than take the time to knife them. For some reason I can't get the old adage, "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.", out of my head.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Just know when its appropriate to use a knife, and dont just knife people to get their dogtags, do it to kill them and eliminate the OPFOR. Might as well put the knife away if you are gonna just go around knifing people, you will die fast.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
when your up close and personal.. knife wins every time, only defense is a pistol...
but don't get too close.. I hate that one thing about this game.. if you are on top of your enemy.. super close.. knife doesn't kill and misses??? I don't get that.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
A small pearl of wisdom to would-be knifers...odds of sneaking up and knifing an enemy from behind are not in your favor if said enemy is carrying a Clark, Ganz, or LMG. There is a good chance your attempt will end tragically for you.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
lol, ole Gunney lost his dog tags three times on Sidi map last night to same player, Lunar_knight! Not upset or anything, thought it was funny. He was running recon with cloak knifing the engineers. He only got 6 points entire round.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I love the TG server and teamwork and all, don't get me wrong. But after a while on the TG server, I long for something more peaceful and slower. I go on the GHF berlin server for those quiet sniping missions I don't get a chance for on TG. I was a sniper on a roof (the skyscraper roof) once and a whole enemy squad podded in from above. I went invisible and waited for them to leave. They stayed and took point from the roof. I whipped out my knife and got 5 quick kills, went invisible, and repeated the process 2 or 3 more times. Lots of laughs.
In other words: knive = goodSome say his skin has the texture of a dolphin's, and that wherever you are in the world, if you tune your radio to 88.4, you can actually hear his thoughts... all we know is, he's called the Stig.
