The Knife: good or bad?
This is a question I pose to my fellow TGers. Is the knife an effective and viable weapon to be used on our servers or is it frowned upon? I've used the knife on occasion and have collected about 50% of my buddies dog tags. A few days ago I spotted a sniper just laying out near our uncap firing toward the next flag. THought it was a noob so I took my time, snuk up behind him and knifed him. That's when I found out it was one of my buds. Seems he took a lot of offensive to the action and message me that he was very upset with me using the knife. Claimed that was a poor and improper weapon to be using. Hell, getting killed by a tank while being infantry is terrible way to die but nobody complains about it! How about stomping to death an enemy soldier? We do it to friendlies by accident by jumping off ledges so I guess it could be done.
What do you guys think?

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Well, no offense to your friend, he needs to grow up. The knife is a viable weapon but I much prefer anything else to it. When Im out of rockets, voss, pistol, grenades, and my defib is overheated then I take out my knife but that is only because everything else has longer attack ranges. It is viable and can be used effectively with sniper kit but I think everyone will agree, a knife is not going to beat a gun or a well aimed defib. I do use it alot on snipers though and sometimes it is fun to try to take out a support or assualt while pretending to be Altair. :P Its your fault if you get knifed since it is pretty easy to avoid as long as you don't just sit somewhere and let people find you.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
Uh, yeah, that's not something to get upset over. I like knifing people that are just sitting there or sniping, though I often get too close and miss or something. But usually it comes out once my primary weapon and pistol are out.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I think I am more annoyed with myself if someone knife's me. It means I wasn't paying attention and helps me regain focus.
By the way Gunney, infantry being killed by a tank is the best thing ever.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
There is already a thread going on with a similar discussion.
On the battlefield, every weapon is useful and every weapon has a purpose. The knife is no different. Knifing soldiers is a good tactic if you take an enemy unawares, or if you are fighting in close quarters and all your other guns require a reload.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I remember some fellow TGers having bad reactions to being knifed but also some getting over excited because they got someone's tag and cheering out in TS. (I'm not pointing at anyone) If they get better selfesteem from getting others' dogtags well, good for them.
What I hate is when a knifer is running towards me, I shoot at him but he jumps over me then knifes me. That's silly. (u_u)

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
edit:
I didn't carefully read the post. I read 'collected 50% dogtags' and assumed the worst.
It may be demoralizing, but as a sniper he should be aware of what snipers are weak against. He failed to protect it.
I don't see anything wrong because you were exploiting the sniper's weak spot.

LOL he´s butthurt
Knifing Sniping people is a way to say "Dude your situational awareness is utterly bad". Sniping people deserve the knife. Nobdy on TG will give you any strange look for it.
People only question knifing when you do it head on or into a group of people while your maingun and pistol still have a working mag in

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
People shouldn't complain about fairly being knifed.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I personally love being knifed. It's a sharp reminder that I need to stop screwing around and start thinking.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
:[ all these replies makes me sad cause i always get knifed -.- Everyones saying how its easy to avoid and ur not paying attention and i feel like a nub cause i lost my dog tag so many times lol. BUT!!! i do pay attention, i dont know why i still get knifed -.- sometimes people just pop out of no where, it cant be helped lol.
Anyways... besides that, the knife is a good weapon although its very demeaning to the victim -.- but thats besides the point lol. next time someone tells u its a nub thing to do or disrespectful, tell them to grow a pair (unless its a girl, then u have to come up with something else xD) lol jk, say that in ur mind, dont really say it cause thats just mean -.-

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I only knife sometimes on conquest games if it's a good chance I won't get owned instead, on titan matches when the enemy is boarding my titan, people who sit in the vents and ramps who rocket/grenade the reactor room are all fair targets.

Snipers are the only healthy sustenance for a knife.

Re: The Knife: good or bad?
I don't like knifers because the majority of them seem to think a set of dogtags is worth the ticket loss(es) to their team. I'm not referring to the single knifing on people unawares, I'm referring to those who charge around corners with their knife drawn into one or more enemies with the hope of a getting a dogtag or two before their inevitable demise, with their victims just getting revived. Dice should have coded the game so that you don't get the tags of someone that gets revived if the knifer gets killed immediately afterward,(as they get them back from your corpse). It's a suicide tactic...pure and simple, I've seen Admins warn for it (albeit rarely), and a whole lot of TGers do it. A question to all you "knife spammers"...if there was a stat, "Number of times killed with knife out" what would yours be? I'd be willing to bet it's a lot higher than your number of tags.
