The Recon Kit
Well, after using it for a few hours last night, I can say we have a whole new weapon on our hands. It's a sniper rifle, not semi auto, but with a fast bolt-reload time. You stay zoomed in the entire time. The aimer is pretty accurate and easy to aim with, but they added in a "breathing" effect so your crosshair moves about quite drastically. So much that I thought it was because of lag, but it isn't. You have to shoot at the top of the dip, as it hesitates a bit there. One hit takes them down 2/3 - 3/4 of their health (depending upon range or body armor), and a headshot kills on hit.
The pistol is where it really gets intresting. Don't bother to try zooming in, the interface they put in is crap and blocks your view. The pistol kills in about 4 or 5 hits, and is quite powerful and is a good match against the engineer main weapon or even the assault one. The one thing to look out for is the ammo and reload time. It has 8 shots per reload (none too many), and the reload time kills you. If you don't kill within the first clip, you're pretty much dead unless you can get a hit on them with the sniper before or after.
This all may change in the actual release and also when unlocks come into play.

Re: The Recon Kit
the EU pistol has less bullets per MAG than the PAC but it does more dmg per bullet so its balanced. I love the sniper rifles. I love how they are perfectly accurate, yet there is sway. Youll also love to know that you can unlock claymores, a 2 level zoom scope, and a stabilizer which is sorta like holding your breath - temporarily steadies your aim for a few seconds...you can use it again after it recharges.
The sniper gun unlock is obviously more powerful and is able to drop targets in one hit if they have no armor. They can also shoot out mines on the ground...very cool.
And if you wanted to go spec ops, you get camo, C7, and upgrade to your NET-BAT, and a carbine. Either way you go its a sweet kit.

Re: The Recon Kit
All the unlocks pretty much force you to go ranked. Oh well, nothing wrong with that.

Re: The Recon Kit
The weapon for this kit is seriously sick. I played it for one round. When I was able to find an infantry man it was one shot one kill from any distance. Flat out ridicules! If I can do it I hate to see it in the hands of some of our more,......er,.......MUCH MORE skilled snipers.
I think I might just go get in a tank and curl up in the fetal position and hope nobody finds me

Re: The Recon Kit
Also note that one of the unlocks on the way to the sniper gun unlock removes the breathing effect. I had this in beta and once you get it...

Re: The Recon Kit
yea the stabilizer...havent used it yet but i hear its a necesseity if you snipe a lot in this game. Not sure how long the recharge is on it, but i can imagine a "snipe 3MAX" squads doing really well defending a flag on an infantry map.

Re: The Recon Kit
I use the Recon kit pretty much all the time and it's all about positioning. Hiding in areas that are less obvious and are equidistant to other more obvious spots from the target is the best thing to do. For instance, the towers in Suez are tempting but painfully obvious and you get only one shot ring out (one kill) and the enemy scatters and the armor starts nailing all the towers and you are just useless at that point. Instead, hide far off near a rock pile or the best is on those raised tram rails in Belgrade or other conquest maps; no one ever suspects those and you can drop AP mines at the only entrances to those points. Also, because the adv sniper rifle does not lose any damage per distance, always go for the head shot, because of the directional damage info the enemy gets when he is struck, you appear as a red blip on everyones screen if that guy survives, BUT if it's a one hit kill all the enemy has is the directional signature of the sound which they should not get an accurate read on for at least a couple more kills, then you MUST DISPLACE (here, using the cloak is great - displace to another rock formation). I've gotten 35+ kills in one round via this method with the adv sniper rifle - the moretti works ok too but is louder and directional signature is greater, not to mention it's weaker so you are found out sooner because your victums take more number of hits before dying.

Re: The Recon Kit
I find playing squad support recon is more fun and rewarding. While your squad mates run ahead and engange in some good ole CQC, you stay behind some 50-80m and take head shots at anyone who stops to fire at your mates. Works like a charm, since you have a whole squad to draw fire and protect you from flanking.
On the other hand, you can easly dig out those entrenched supports and recons defending a flag. Not to mention the AT guys zooming in on your armor.
Other benefits of moving close to the squad include healing, and re-arming.

Re: The Recon Kit
Yes, good points - but it really is not very rewarding if you don't have a good team/squad to play with and you are just following a group of half wits because they will just scatter and you will be left alone and all you will hear is *shhliick* as someones knife cuts through your spine while you are prone (talking from experience)
BUT I've also tried flanking while my squad was in a fire fight, finding a nice spot, calling my squad to just cease fire so the enemy will take a breather and picking off the bad guys one by one once they are all bloodied and tired (no sprint left) and are just hiding behind a dumpster waiting to die and oh how fun that is...

Re: The Recon Kit
The Lambert is a very nice gun if you're a commando and find yourself outnumbered. It makes lots of pretty red splashes on the nearby walls

Re: The Recon Kit
I personally have around a 6 k/d ratio with the regular rifle. The red sights on the zeller make it very annoying to work, and the low ammo hurts if you miss the first shot. The Lambert is a beast close range, but be careful medium distance and go in small bursts, almost single shot.

Yea, the UI for the zoom on the zellar stinks and IS annoying but the added power really makes this rifle the only choice (even if you don't get a head shot, just takes two shots to the body at under 85 meters to kill). The best goal using the zellar is to try to get two kills per reload (so at least one head shot) - I go for the head shot first and if I don't get it and completely miss I try for two shots to the body - if I hit the body on the first attempt I go for another body shot then try to pop a head shot off to the other target with my last round. It's dangerous to try to just go head shots all the time - I've only gotten all 3 head shots/kills with one reload twice before, its rare. If the targets are out of range, sometimes I will pop a round off right at their feet to get them running and ducking for cover, then I run up (cloaked) to displace, eventually they wander back out and I'm in range with a fresh magazine. It's true the Lambert is just simply great at very close range BUT it is extremely weak. I really only use it to unload on one guy at a time and only IF I'm sneaking up on him from the rear - and if you are distant enough to have to use the single burst w/ the Lambert you might as well just displace and get closer because I've never gotten a kill at range with that thing even after hitting the target multiple times in the chest, it's just too damn weak.
