Quick SL Orders
I've noticed that the order system has been simplified in 2142. You don't have to open up the map to give an attack/defend objective. If you want your squad to attack/defend a control point, point your crosshair on the control point's flag and issue an order. It makes it much easier to give out orders and you won't leave yourself a sitting duck while you're looking at the map.

Re: Quick SL Orders
Yep, 'T' and left click for close order, 'right click' on map for distant order and of course the best of all is 'page up' to accept commanders orders

Re: Quick SL Orders
Yeah, I noticed this in the demo. It's pretty awesome.
BTW Silver, page up always accepted orders, in BF2 and in 2142.|TG-Irr|TychoCelchuuu

Re: Quick SL Orders
The 'T' screen has been much updated for SL's. It now shows what everyone in your squad is equipped with, including unlocks.
At the bottom, it shows you the state of the commander support items. Meaning there is a bar that shows you the recharge time for EMP strikes, supply boxes, etc.

Re: Quick SL Orders
While this will be great for new players to the BF franchise, I found it very limiting. What if I want my squad to defend a pass between control points? At the moment, the only context sensitive order i can put down at a point that -isn't- a control point is 'move to this location'.

Re: Quick SL Orders
Ya I felt the same way when I played the demo. As SL I tend to give lots of various orders outside the obvious attack and defend a flag/silo orders. In bf2 if I see a group of infantry I put an attack marker on them to get everyone to rally there for a counterattack. Then there are various other orders like blowing up a bridge or defending a chokepoint. You can still do it in the map in 2142 from what I remember but I'd much rather have the ability in the commo rose system so I can do it on the fly.

Re: Quick SL Orders
Snail, while you can simply put a "move here" waypoint, and tell the squad to defend, the bonus points that come from defending a flag or attacking on a given waypoint are gone. Not terribly important, but you have to wonder why they would do that.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Re: Quick SL Orders
So in order to get the most out of my squad's potential as far as teamwork points go, I have to keep them all on the flag? Even if it is for the reason you've pointed out (which is very reasonable) a squad should still be able to recieve a "defend here!" order from the CO, anywhere on the map.

Re: Quick SL Orders
Yeah, I tried to check if there was a way to quickly put down an arbitrary attack/defend point. Well, I only tried doing a right-click while the command rose was up but it didn't work. It's kind of a shame really. It could be an anti-farming measure but I think EA just didn't think of that.

Re: Quick SL Orders
In the beta guys would go off to corner of the map and farm kill each other. I think this is an unfortunate means to prevent bonus points for those farmers. I find it limiting as I often placed attach or defend orders outside traditional flag areas.

Re: Quick SL Orders
If the point system was the reason, I think that there could have been a smarter way to still implement the 'defend here, attack here' orders. For example, defending/attacking at a flag can be worth more than defending/attacking an area that doesnt have a flag.
It may make things more complicated, but it would also recognize the importance of CO strategy that isnt centered around the control points.|TG-Irr| Boomer258
