Re: Squad Leader Tactics
ive also heard that you can glitch with the beacon, on the sloped container thing on gibby. its sinks into the container, so only the top is showing, which cant be destroyed.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
So a couple of questions about SL unlocks:
- Does anyone ever use either of the drones with success? If so, how?
- How much of a difference does the priority beacon make?
- Is there etiquette around what unlocks you should have before you become an SL?
Thanks.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
The Otis drone is very useful in that you can "spot" flanking enemies behind walls and track their movements. It's not real-time, but scans once every 10 seconds and puts the red diamonds up on your HUD. With a recon in you squad, you also get them on the mini-map. But, they don't cloak and are a dead give-away of who the SL/Spawn point is. The Otis was awesome before they kept mysteriously exploding and killing the SL deploying it.
As for the Accipter, ask Arf or search for "Spanky" in the forum search function
Not a big fan of the beacon myself, so I might be biased. The priority can make a difference if you coordinate your squad to spawn together quickly on a point to surprise the enemy's defense and if your squad lead is good about constantly moving it around so you don't get camped. Otherwise, I would avoid it because I find that faster spawns = less perceived value of life = faster ticket loss. This is especially true when the beacon is camped and the SL/Squad mates insist on continuing to spawn there.
I wouldn't say so because the unlocks are only as good as you make them. It would be preferable to have A SL unlock just to show people before they join squads that you might actually be serious about SL'ing. Otherwise, just try the best you can. SL'ing is more about you guiding your squad to give them a common goal and to coordinate their actions, not you going in to tear up the other team with the help of your squad mates. As long as you feel comfortable defending yourself with what you have, I'd say you're good to go.
Now, get out there and start Squad Leading!!!

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
One thing to keep in mind about SL unlocks is that you can designate your SMs to carry certain unlocks that you can use. I usually carry the ottus, I prefer the recon ability over the beacon, I asked SMs to spawn on me or at a particular flag.
If I feel the need to have a beacon, I ask one of the SMs to carry it in thier Assault kit. If they get shot, I can take thier kit, revive them and set the beacon. Switch back with the next revive or spawn. Keep in mind that once you place the beacon, the SMs can only spawn on a flag or the beacon but NOT on you. I would much rather have them spawn on me as I can keep moving and try to put the squad in a better position to achieve our goals.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Thanks guys. Very informative.
I've actually got all the SL unlocks, as I used to always SL before I started playing with TG. I never much liked the drones, but I probably wasn't using them to best effect. Since joining TG, I'm reluctant to SL simply because the SL's here are so much better. It's an entirely different game, honestly, and I want spend more time getting a grasp of the tactics before I jump back into it....

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
In my experience, using the beacon effectively is a difficult proposition. Unless if your squad is disciplined about holding spawn, what ends up happening is that your squad members spawn in at different rates/times and the enemy picks off your squad one by one, because squad cohesion is lost. Additionally if the becaon is compromised, tickets are wasted unnecessarily because it is not clear if the encounter is still winable or not (since the green spawn point exists). Whereas If the squad leader goes down, it is very clear for the squad members to hold spawn.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Sorry if I am repeating this, way to many pages for me to read lol.
By using the caps lock option of giving orders, if you give an order to attack a titan on the squad leader screen it will tell your squad members to attack the ground below it, not giving/getting any extra points.
To fix this, use the quick T squad order on the icon of the titan.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
I just thought I'd bring this up...
Flanking the enemy or directing his fire in more than one direction will almost certainly win a squad v squad battle. Although you may not hear 'line of sight' mentioned much in 1st person shooters, it actually applies a lot to 2142. Evading your enemies line of sight is really effective in remaining hidden. I used a bush once on shuhia taiba and proned completely still, several tanks/apcs, even infantry bypassed me without knowing it. But Flanking is much more powerful and directing fire is even better! If your enemy is holed up ontop of central, split your squad and send 3 to attack the top west entrance and keep urself and 2 other mates to attack from the south top entrance. Then one of you moves in first, gets the squad to focus their fire and boom, you shoot them where the sun don't shine! (just for fun, I love doing that though!) Now hat I think about it, TG does apply flanking and stuff. But I might as well remind everybody.
